Hiya Abi.

The color perceived of the dress depends on the surrounding lighting.

Are you looking at this in a dark room?

I've been able to see both. But at a casual glance, it always looks white and gold to me.

Funny, my friend and I were staring at this from the same screen in the office. He saw black and blue and I saw white and gold. We even tried looking from all different angles >.<

Anyway, I don't keep up with the times. Those who have seen this can carry on!

Your friend must have been putting you on... I worked in computer graphics and I know all about computer color settings, color correction, color profiles, monitor calibration, etc... I have worked on large commercial prints that require exact color reproduction so what you see on the screen must exactly match the output on the $10,000+ printer we were using....

And I can tell you that there can be some differences between computer monitors but for two computers to display this exact same photo as blue/black and white/gold would mean one of the computer's display settings are set to wild extremes. So wild that it wouldn't even be usable for someone because all the colors would look wrong (people's skin would look green or something, the sky would look dark purple, etc...)

Keep in mind that this dress controversy started in Reddit where people will say anything for attention..

my son brought this to our attention when it first hit the 'net. we looked at it on everyone's phone, laptop and tablet.
i saw white and gold, and he saw blue and black, no matter where we looked or how hard we tried to see it differently.

i dunno why!! but it's not just you. ;)

ps-- zt, whaddaya mean, attention seekers at Reddit?? pfft! :p

I see it as white and black
That is, I do see the blue, but my mind reads it as shade.
(hey, what can you expect after my stay in Scotland?)
