My dearly beloved Nexus 6p is about to take his last breath. And I need a phone ASAP. It is going to be a hard loss, but it just seems to be a struggle for my dear friend to keep on going.

So. My question is. Which phone should be my new play mate, friend and work companion?

I recommend a phone that will meet your hopes and aspirations and that compliments the qualities that you already have.

i just got a sony z5 compact. i don't like enormous phones - this one is only a 4.7" screen - and there are really only a few of choices if you want a high-end device that you can actually use with one hand and will actually fit in a pocket, and Sony & Apple lead the pack by a long shot.

the Sony is a close match or actually out-specs the iphone SE in every category, has expandable memory, plus it's android ((i'd rather have the customization that OS offers)), and it's dust & waterproof. being a 2016 model, it's already half the price it was originally sold for even though i bought a brand new one, and far less than an iphone would have cost.

porting apps, data and settings from my old android was painless - i had a full nandroid backup plus google restored most things once i'd signed in.

if you like small phones, that's what i recommend. Sony has newer models of compact phones, XZ and X etc - but they are actually inferior to the older Z5, in processing power, camera resolution and other specs, plus they don't have the water/dust proofing.

if you prefer a larger 6" screen ((a.k.a. a "phablet")) i don't have any advice other than personally i'd rather have an android than an iphone, primarily for two reasons: able to fully customize and tweak virtually every aspect of the software, and not paying a few hundred extra dollars for a brand name.

i had android before ios, and honestly? i feel blessed to have changed the text alert to something not jarring, and figured out how to capture a photo from a video!

what is the saying, "analog in a digital world" ? i think i'll always be a twentieth century gal. lol

I am not a cell phone user, but I did hear on a news segment that this is a good time to buy the old IPhone. They're lowering the price to sell out before debuting the new one.

(No idea what that means for which one to get, but am guessing you do. lol)

Sorry. You have a cellphone, so you belong in the 21st century. And, so you know, the 20th century misses you. lol

this bit is something you may really want to think about - phones that are 1-2 years old are going to cost dramatically less than this year's models, and differences in how well they perform or what kind of support they have is going to be minimal & more than likely completely unnoticeable.
for me, having all the latest features and the newest model wasn't worth all the additional cost. obviously other people have different opinion on that, or no one would be buying brand new phones.

just something to think about; you might save yourself a considerable amount of money without any noticeable sacrifice in bells or whistles if you opt for something that was released in 2015-2016, like i did.
a "new phone" doesn't necessarily have to be a 2017 model phone in order to be a significant upgrade to your old one and to be perfectly usable & sufficiently 'current' in terms of processing speed, memory & compatibility for several years.

I've tried Android, but it was too complicated, so now I have an iPhone, which, luckily, takes my lack of phone iq into consideration:p.

My old is an android. Big screen. And I would like a screen 5.5-8'' big. I think my dislike for iTunes rules out iPhone. So. Perhaps one topmodel from Huawei eller Meizu would be good. Never going back to HTC. Does anyone have any experiences with LG?

I've had my Galaxy 7 edge since last December and I am still learning new things about it every day. Seriously, just yesterday I figured out how to change my ringtone ;):p

I only have an experience with their refrigerators. :)

Ours just fizzled out after a couple of years. It would cost more to fix it than to buy a new one and their customer service isn't good.

I know a few people with LG and they have had nothing but problems with it so I would discourage getting one

I'm starting to wonder if I'm a nineteenth century guy.
