Hey SPV Family!
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” James *1:19-20
I've been meditating on these words the last several days because I am soooo tempted to just go on rant after rant after rant about all the stuff that's going on in the world these days. I like what one of my Facebook friends said: "This is my struggle: I want to say so much more than it seems to me Wisdom would allow." Can we get angry and spout off every 5 seconds? Sure we can, but wisdom calls us to do something different and the Lord is calling us to a better way. The Lord instructs us to listen...and not just for a second but to really, really listen. Is anger, in and of itself, wrong or sinful? Not necessarily, but it often consumes us and it's often spent on things that aren't even taken from a kingdom perspective. So I'm preaching to myself here but if you can relate feel free to join me in 1) listening more & ranting less, 2) saving anger for only those things that are central to the kingdom, and 3) exercising faith in the fact that the light really is winning and Jesus is victorious even when — especially when — the news tries to convince us otherwise.
Much love to you all,
Pastor Chris
