Scroll to about 17:10. Sorry, I couldn't find the song by itself on youtube and I don't know how to make a link that starts in the middle of a youtube video... though I know it is possible.

Actually the whole album is pretty good. Listen to the whole thing if you have time. If you don't have time, scroll to 17:10 for a song called "Stand."

No matter what you're going through
Don't let it get the best of you
When you've done all that you can do
Do all you can to stand

The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha
Thank you for the posts..i will listen to them.

Please let me.. as i could not finish my post earlier. There is something abt this song that made me return to the music sheet time and again. I hadnt even seen the musical. But here's a comment from one of the utube vids sung by Richard Kiley, wc prompts me to watch when there is opportunity.

Jeff Schecter 1 year ago

This song comes halfway through the play. This is the moment when the audience (just like Aldonza) stops laughing at this old fool, and begins to hear what his disordered mind believes in.... what he believes is worth devoting one's last ounce of courage to pursue .....despite it not being achievable. Impossible. But to try, to dream.... to reach for....that is where glory lies. So try to forget about how it is sung... pretend youve never heard it before, dont sing along.... dont listen at it....listen to it... hear a crazy old madman standing alone under the stars in the courtyard of a dirty little inn....

The Impossible Dream

Songwriters: JOE DARION, MITCHELL LEIGH

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow that star,
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right without question or cause
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To fight the unbeatable foe, to reach the unreachable star.

"Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean. This was the first song I can remember hearing on the radio. It was my favorite song when I was about four years old. :)

(The song that talked me to go home with Dad because I was my little brother's godmother. I was charged with taking care of him when Mom died.)
