Which do you prefer to have as a pet?

Personally, I prefer cats. I've always loved them since I was a kid. There's just something so alluring about them to me.

We lost our baby on 7/7/2017, and I am still hunting something bad. Sometimes it hits me like it was yesterday we had to have her put to sleep.

This is not her, btw, just a pic of a pug. They're the best! :(

Aw, I'm sorry. It truly is heartbreaking losing a pet you love so much. It can be like losing a family member.

My wife and I can not have kids, so Lexie was, and still is, our baby. She lived like a queen. She is buried in my in-laws family cemetery and we've let it be known that one of us wants to be buried on one side and the other buried on the other side of her. She will be in between us.

Cats ftw! Cats forever!

Dogs are cool too. I have an australian shepherd. But five dogs could never muster up the dignity of a single cat. Cats always have a sense of purpose. Cats never just idly wander around because they are bored. When a cat is walking from anywhere, to anywhere, he always looks like he is on a mission straight from the president.

Most cats are also self-regulating. With every cat I ever had, I could put out a big bowl of cat food and the cat would eat whenever the cat was hungry. Try that with a dog and the dog will eat until the food is gone. And if the cat does overeat, it is probably because the cat is an indoor-only cat who is bored to tears. All my cats have been outdoor cats and they all remain sleek and svelte... unlike their owner, who is getting a bit chunky.

I've lived with lots of dogs and a few cats growing up. We had a small chicken farm (and a few pigs) and once the cage was accidentally left open. The chicks were all over the place and we had to find each one. We had two dogs, Tommy and Kimberly (power rangers fan lol). Kimberly was the smart one, she would find each one and alert us. Tommy was the brat. He would run to Kimberly before we could, and he'd eat the chick. It was too funny. We couldn't afford being mad at him because he'd look guilty after. They had tragic deaths (I wont give more details). We had many more dogs before and after them.

Back when I was in elementary (4th grade?), my classmate gave me a cat. We named her Mimay. She stayed with us until I was in college. We loved her so very much and she was so awesome. One time she was pregnant and we moved into this house near the woods, and she would be outdoors watching out for snakes! She's killed a few and while carrying her babies! She travelled with us to many different towns. I loved her. We had to give her away when my brother was born. He was very asthmatic as a baby.

While I very much love cats, I slightly, very slightly prefer the adorable playfulness of dogs. They're much harder to raise though IMO, takes more effort. If I was allowed to have a pet right now, I'd have both but if I have to choose one, I'd go with dogs.

That's another reason why I prefer cats. They're much easier to take care of and don't require much work like dogs tend to.

Sorry you had to give away your cat Mimay. I got sad just reading that. I'm sure you guys were really sad to see her go.

We gave her to my uncle who was has had cats before too. We got to visit her a few times before... she ran away. That was like more than a decade ago, and both my uncle and aunt are dead now. When I get to heaven, I'm sure I'll see her (and hopefully my uncle too, he got saved on his deathbed, as in my mom had him recite the salvation prayer - used to be a cult leader, that story's for another day though lol I tend to derail a lot darn)

Derailing my thread would probably be fair payback since I and other people derailed yours with orange cat pictures.

I remember I took of pic of this fat kitty while at the market last week. (He's not really orange, though Blue lol)

It was funny, people were walking by, talking (and we were loud) and I was taking pictures and he's just there, too feline to even bat an eyelash lol.

I have had both and loved them all, but the older I get the easier cats are to take care of and we don't have a fenced in yard which I prefer to have with a dog.

Our kitties Tango and Sugar are inside cats and both are healthy Tango is male and very muscle bound and Sugar is female and thin and petite. Love them both and they are very entertaining.

I voted for other.
I like "cogs" just as much as I like "dats".

I've owned both cats and dogs. I don't prefer one over the other. Once my Doberman passes away though, I won't be owning any more pets for a long, long time.

Why I am not surprised you had a Doberman? I am sorry for your loss. I am now on my third dog as an adult. The first I had to give away when Plato entered the house. She was the cutest, smartest, lovable dog I have ever seen, and I grieved over her. I think she is still going strong, but I have lost contact with her new owners. Plato and I have become a team, and he has seen me through my darkest time of my life. To let him go would be too hard yet. So I will keep him until he is too old and sick to have a goo d dog life.

Point is. Yes. It hurts when a pet passes away, but that is the natural thing. They will only live a 6th or 7th of our life spam, and a dog will never surpass a human in value. (Although I often prefer dogs to humans as company).

I currently have 4 indoor cats and a porch cat who likes to come in when it rains or gets too cold.

I love cats, especially my cats. But Ive always preferred dogs. I would say Im more of a dog person.

I dont currently have a dog though. I did have the miniature pinscher that I grew up with until recently, she passed away in her bed about a year ago.

Heres a picture of her-
