A better question might be, why does she want to wait 40 or 50 some odd years to do it?

If you haven't repented to begin with why call yourself a Christian ?

What if you die at 30 and your sins are still unrepented?

Unfortunately, it's not a very good scenario for one's salvation. :(

I do understand what you're saying though. I have a friend who struggles with this a lot--this person used to live in the world, then became a Christian, and often feels stifled by all of Christianity's rules.

This person often wishes they they could have just gone on living their life the way they were, and then be saved right at the last minute, kind of like the thief on the cross.

Ah, a good understanding of "repent." (So many of us think of it as the Catholic Confessional.)

I've had three close encounters with death in my 18 years of life. I could die tomorrow. I think that the sooner I repent and turn from my sins, the better. Personally, I've been trying to do it every day of my life for the last seven years.

Forget if you did sooner. Even if you live that long will God recognize that as a sincere repentance? Purposefully not repenting until you think you need to just to cover your butt? Something tells me God would not honor that.

I fully concur with your estimation. Keep sinning and eventually your heart will become harden and you will never repent. You will die in your sins and become a lost soul separated from God for all eternity.

When death can strike at any moment, let alone when the Bridegroom comes like a thief in the night at the pre rib rapture event, then it will be too late to repent in order to be received by Him as a vessel unto honor in His House. You are running the risk of being left behind as a castaway to be received later on by Him as a vessel unto dishonor in His House.

1 Corinthians 9:[SUP]24 [/SUP]Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.[SUP]25 [/SUP]And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.[SUP]26 [/SUP]I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:[SUP]27 [/SUP]But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Revelation 2:[SUP]21 [/SUP]And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.[SUP] 22 [/SUP]Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.[SUP]23 [/SUP]And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Romans 6:[SUP]16 [/SUP]Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Galatians 6:[SUP]7 [/SUP]Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.[SUP]8 [/SUP]For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

And God is not mocked; if you keep sowing to the works of the flesh, you will reap corruption.

2 Peter 2:[SUP]18 [/SUP]For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.[SUP] 19 [/SUP]While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.[SUP]20 [/SUP]For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.[SUP]21 [/SUP]For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.[SUP]22 [/SUP]But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

So you may think you will be able to stop sinning by repenting later on in life, but you are ignoring His warning to be ready by abiding in Him now as well as the warning that you will reap what you sow for putting off living that reconciled relationship with God now thru Jesus Christ to help you live as His because in according to His word, a time will come when you may not want to ask Him to help you repent when you had thought you would repent by then... if you had lived long enough.

The word repentance means to turn away from what you were doing, that means 180, not 360, go completely the other way. God will forgive you if you have a repentant heart, but God knows the heart, and if you don't come with a humble repentant heart, there is no repentance. You can't just pick an age and say This is when I'll give it to God and ask for forgiveness. We're not promised tomorrow, that's why God gives us the present to repent and accept Jesus as our Savior. God is gracious to allow us to live, but our days are numbered. Don't be prideful and say I'll do this then, God knows the heart. I always say Don't let your pride drag you down to Hell....Spit it out! Cause if you swallow it, you still got it!

You don't know how long that you're going to live. You really should repent today, right now, at this minute.
Amen, Now is the day of Salvation, KJV2Corinthians6;2 2.(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee;behold, now is accepted time; behold, now is the day of Salvation.)

A cautionary tale - What makes you think God will give you a second chance.

When you come under the conviction of the Holy Spirit, it’s hard to ignore. If
you have never felt it, then you are unlikely to be saved. A genuine saved
person would not even ask this question as you cannot ignore the unction
of the Holy Spirit. You can fight it and argue with yourself about it. But deep
inside you know you have to do something about it. So don’t harden your
heart otherwise God might harden it for you.

Isaiah 6:9-10 NKJV
[9] And He said, "Go, and tell this people: 'Keep on hearing, but do
not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.' [10] "Make the
heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand
with their heart, And return and be healed."

Spot on, the longer you go your own way without Christ, the longer you spend
messing up your life and creating more problems for yourself. Why mess your
life up for 50-60 years when you don’t have to.

It has nothing to do with age, repentance is about the heart not our age. We don't repent because we feel it's something we should do we repent because we want to be washed clean of all our sins and our wrong doings, we repent because have an actual guilt of the person we were and the things we have done. We repent because we want to honor God and to show him that we understand we need forgiveness and are willing to move forward in living a holy and clean life.

Wonderful answers on here !

When I got saved I was 16 and the conviction was so strong that I didn't want to be the old me anymore.... my eyes were opened to the fact that all my righteousness were filthy rags in the sight of God , and even though I was a religious teenager I was on my way to hell. I was sorry that my sins put Jesus on the cross. He cared enough about me to bleed and die so that I could be redeemed. Man, just writing it now makes me so thankful for his mercy in my life. Nov. 30th will be 18 years ago that I repented and God had mercy on me. :)

I suppose that depends on what you mean by repenting?

If it’s merely saying sorry for the things you have done wrong then you are not repenting.
No amounts of sorry with no change of heart will will save you.

Initial repentance is to repent of the sin of unbelief in Jesus and believe in him for forgiveness of sins.
When we do that we no longer want to sin.

If we look at the thief on the cross there is no record of him saying sorry for the things he did wrong.

Luke 23:40-43

40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

He acknowledged he did wrong and deserved his rewards for it.
He looks at Jesus and says LORD.
He realises who Jesus is and places his faith in him.
I am sure had he met Jesus a lot lot earlier he would not have been on the cross next to him.
Yet Jesus said “today you will be with me in paradise”

Jesus said

Matthew 3:2
2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

3:2 The Greek verb translated repent indicates a change of attitude and outlook which well may result in sorrow for sins. But the basic idea is a reversal of thinking which changes one’s life.

The trouble is with your question is you assume you have a period of time to do what you want then one day you repent, whatever that means to you.

The saying goes “Tomorrow never comes” So as long as you are enjoying sinning you sticking the middle finger up to God and will say “I will do it tomorrow”

Tomorrow never comes.

Maybe you hope for a death bed experience like the thief on the cross.
He had a chance to repent towards who Jesus is.

You may not have that opportunity.
Even if you end up on a death bed you may not be compos mentis.

Today is the day of slavation, not tomorrow not years down the line.

I notice your profile says you are a Christian.

Then why do you ask such a question?
If you are a genuine Christian then you would have already repented, if not then sorry your not a Christian.
I will depart from the word Christian here because in be a nominal association but if you have truly repented then you are a follower Jesus, if not then not.

Or are you asking the question and looking for help in answering that question that has been asked of you.

Have you read Hebrews 10? Here's a good passage:

26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. (Hebrews 10: 26-27)

it depends.. what age should a person learn right from wrong?
