I don't think demons or Satan can cause or make you do anything. They could tempt you, but ultimately it's you that decides to go through with it.

Read Matt. 15:19 The things which are in the heart of man Jesus pointed out includes sexual immorality, lust, etc. We are all sinners and have much ungodly things in ourselves until we receive the life of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit to give us a new heart.

Christ tells us that satan and his angels tempt us. We even know that Jesus was tempted in the desert by satan. But Christ chose to do the right thing every time.

Satan can lead you to think about rape, he can try to make it appealing to you. But in the end it is we who decide what we do.

We cant stop ourselves from being tempted, and from having ideas put into our heads. But we have full control over what choices we make. Those who do violate others gave into thoughts and urges, and let themselves be guided into doing wrong. But they made the choice themselves to do it.

According to the flesh, train a child In the way It should go and when Its older It will not depart but no one knows what’s In the heart except GOD and only GOD can clean to the uttermost.

I take an opposite position from most of the posters here (surprise, surprise). I don’t believe people are able to do the evil things they do unless they are demon possessed or demonically influenced. I refuse to believe the flesh is EVIL. God made us GOOD. We sin, sure- but rape, murder, torture, is a whole other level. On this level, the other human does not matter. This is satanic, when another life can be ruined. I don’t mean telling a lie or laughing at someone in public- these are sins, but not life ruining.

I am probably not explaining this correctly. I think our flesh is sinful, but not EVIL. And rapists, murderers can be rehabilitated.

My belief is this: demons are not going about doing sensational things like in the movies, throwing things around rooms and making people’s heads spin around. Satan is smart, this sort of thing does not “kill, steal, and destroy”. I think demons go about inhabiting people who rape, torture, and kill.

I don’t think we can stop demons, so it is not possible.

This is key to the failure of Christianity. We were never intended to stop anything of Satan. We are told to allow God to do it through our living. But, we have distorted that into doing one of several things.

Two come immediately to mind. Either we go the Catholic route, and think our own Hocus-Pocus antics defeat Satan.... Or we accept the defeatist attitude of Protestantism, and turn over God's world to Satan, claiming that Adam really surrendered it all in the first place, so we are doomed to ride this burning Roller-Coaster till God hopefully plucks us off it.

I suggest we may find much more hope if we start asking God to take us into direct, and daily, contact with the troubled people of this world who are susceptible to demonic influence. Jesus did what He saw the Father doing. And we might consider doing what we see Jesus doing all through the Bible.

I don’t think we can do what Jesus did- in regards of demonism. It is my contention that we may very well not know who is demon possessed and who is not. For example, the people around Jeffrey Dahmer had no idea he was doing the evil things he did. I don’t know how a Christian could have stopped him. Dahmer became a Christian in prison. I am of the Protestant persuasion, I suppose.

"I don’t think we can do what Jesus did- in regards of demonism." - Galatea

But Jesus said in Mark 16:17 that this particular sign would accompany those who believe - "they will drive out demons in the power of my name...."

It is only the Holy Spirit who can reveal to a believer who is demon-possessed. Or has an unsurrendered area of their life that is open to Satan.

You wrote, "I, I, I" and "they" "don't know and can't" all through that post. And you were right in each case....... but, GOD does and can....... if we will let Him.

And it is not necessary that we EVER know.. Just that we do as God asks. (Possibly never "seeing" or "knowing" anything abut our interactions with various people.)

With the greatest respect, I disagree. I am a dispensationalist. I believe that these words were spoken to the apostles for that time, not for this- which is now the Age of Grace. I do not believe in exorcisms, and think they cause more harm than good. Many, many mentally ill people have been identified as “demon possessed” throughout the centuries, and harmed or even killed by people who mistakenly thought they were driving out demons.

Yes, of course I did. I use the pronoun “I” as these are opinions peculiar to me.

I for one, would not want to be the arbiter of who is demon possesed and who is not. Only God knows what is in the heart of an individual.

You're low key letting guys (and gals) off the hook here, it's the drunk "I have no control in what I was doing" excuse hehe

However likes someone said before, demons tempt us but we either give in or we resist.

Man is a dichotomy, flesh and spirit. The flesh desires for pleasure, sustenance and and reproduction. The spirit desires to be one with God. Sin is the result of allowing the flesh to dictate your actions. We can strengthen our spirit connectivity with God by choosing Him. Demonic possession from my understanding is a choice as well. You allow the demon in. Often a result of black magic, sex magic, spells and calling on them. I’ve heard that spells are often woven into rock and pop music. You can see from the imagery in videos, art on album covers and lyrics that it is heavily occult influenced. Even the beats alter brainwaves to reprogram thoughts.
