    Default Learning or Talking?

I am very curious about people’s attitudes toward the benefits of this site. On more than one occasion, I have been told here that I do not have a teachable spirit. I find it kind of surprising, as I don’t post here to learn anything, but to talk. No offense, but if I want to learn, I can read the Bible for myself. I come here because I am lonely and want to talk.

So, my question is this- are you here to learn or here to talk?

Yes, I know the two are not mutually exclusive. But, there must be a primary reason why people are talking to strangers online.

Good post, I am really shocked at the level of very un-christian like attitudes here.

Could you be more specific? Do you mean the people who refuse instruction and are “brutish” or do you mean the people who tell everyone what they should be feeling or doing about situations in their lives (unsolicited advice, I realize some people here ask for advice).

I think there is a failure to communicate among the people here to learn and the people who are here to talk.

What is your primary purpose on this site, learning or talking?

Both . I always value the opinions and input of others, if I didn't I wouldn't talk to people . But I love just talking to people, too.

I come here to speak with brothers and sisters in Christ

I kind of put myself out there a little bit in hopes to become more than a "stranger" and I'm not opposed to learning from anyone if I am wrong....

There have actually been a few times where I was wrong about something here and through talking to other people I was able to see something from a completely different light than I would typically look at things

What about spiritual things, though? I tend to have fixed beliefs. I doubt very much that a stranger online will convince me to believe things contrary to my own beliefs. People could argue with me all day and all night, and I would still not believe abortion is fine for any reason, for example.

I am rather hard headed. I don’t come to the conclusion that I am wrong by talking to people. Anytime I find out I am wrong about something, it must be proven wrong to me. I must need evidence that I am wrong.

There are things I am hard headed about
    (because I'm right)

Sometimes I'm wrong and hardheaded too... and then it is proven to me... and I come out looking like a genius

I don’t care looking like a fool, I am a fool. So if I am proven wrong, it is par for the course.

I am here for a bit of both. I enjoy reading other folks posts . Even if I disagree with a post I really like to find out where someone is coming from. I like clarity . Agreement comes later. I also like to share my beliefs and opinions too . I generaly won’t say much unless I think. Can add something of value. If someone has already said what I think I probably won’t say anything. So I guess it’s about 75% reading an 25% talking. That’s the way I am here and in person I am about the same .

I used to get involved in discussions here but found out that its too easy to offend someone without realizing it. One person even accused me of trying to be better than everyone else... like what?!?

So now I keep things light... I avoid most serious topics unless I have something important to say, and I usually don't because the topic is usually the kind where everyone has a different opinion....

I figured you were a talker and not a learner. It sounds bad, but really isn’t. I would imagine a great deal of the information on a message board is incorrect.

The one thing I am sure of is that I am not here to teach. (Too much competition from all the people who know everything... LOL)

I am mostly here to learn but to talk too, once in awhile. It is good to do private studies of the Bible; matter of fact, that should be a daily habit for all Christians. However, God calls us to fellowship with one another because He understands us and knows what we need to grow. We all need each other, we are one family, one body. No one person can understand all of God's word in this lifetime... even together we lack knowledge and wisdom! God speaks and often times, it is through your fellow brother or sister in Christ.

In the world's sense we are strangers... but we are connected, we are one in God. You're talking to family.

hmmm...I will say this...everyone is here to learn regardless of where you are in your walk in Christ...no one...I'll say it again...no one is above learning or bettering themselves in any way shape or form. I actually find it strange people will quickly throw the words leaders, teachers, etc. around when they speak of themselves. I was under the impression one wasn't defined as a leader by their own words but by those that go to them for guidance, wisdom etc...I guess I'm stuck in the idea that people like Moses who resented the idea of ever being a leader but God chose him and people followed him in the end I guess that's what makes a leader...derailed a little my B...in conclusion everyone is here to learn!

I originally joined the site to vent and get things off of my chest because I was going through some rough family things at the time, but as I learned more and more about how people are, it repulsed me to even come on here to talk because to matter what is said there are quite a few people who gossip and make their own assumptions which couldn't be further than the truth. Honestly, I feel bad for people who have nothing better to do than sit at home or work and dig up whatever they can about others in order for them to feel good about themselves so I am living my life outside of the internet and I have been blessed in so many ways as a result...so I guess I ended up doing both. I first came to talk and then I ended up learning I shouldn't be doing that online

You would be a rare one, then. It seems to me most people here want to tell others what to believe.
