There are bound to be people in here, any moment, accusing your "traditional songs" of fostering paganism.

But I can't help thinking...
our side has better music.

Oh Holy Night sung by John Berry

Oh, holy night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth

Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til he appeared and the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees, oh hear the angel's voices
Oh night divine, oh night, when Christ was born
Oh night divine, oh, night, oh night divine

Led by the light of a serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here came the wise men from the Orient land

The King of Kings lay in lowly manger
With all our trials born to be our friend

He knows our need, to our weakness no stranger
Behold your King, before the Lord we bend
Behold your King, your King, before Him bend

A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees, oh, hear the angel's voices
Oh, night divine, oh, night, when Christ was born
Oh night divine,
Oh night divine

**Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace

Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy name

Merry Christmas, and warmest wishes for the season of giving!

Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring - Bach;
arrangement by George Winston

Jesu, joy of man's desiring
Holy wisdom, love most bright

Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated Light

Word of God, our flesh that fashioned
With the fire of life impassioned

Striving still to truth unknown
Soaring, dying around Thy throne

I was trying to remember some of the classic Christmas carols my family always sang at Christmas time, "classic" to me meaning those having to do specifically with the incarnation of Jesus Christ, and the reason for His taking on flesh as the Word of God to walk this world, and give His life as a ransom for any who come to faith in Him, repenting of their rebellion against God, that they may be reconciled to God and attain to life ever after... as opposed to those that sing of snow and jingle bells and roasting chestnuts, e.g. One of the ones I love best, and listened to a number of versions of last night while searching for samples to add to this thread, was Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel... and it was being sung by my congregation as I walked into church this morning! Though I rebelled big time, and ran from God for many years (most of my life), I have always loved Christmas carols, singing them with others over all the years at this time in various places, even as a non-believer. So now I offer it here, with gratitude to my parents, who brought me up the best way they knew how.

O Come, O Come Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
Who orderest all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, Thou branch of Jesse, free
Free them from Satan’s tyranny;
And trust Thy mighty power to save,
And give them victory over the grave.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

**O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, O come, great Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times once gave the law
In cloud and majesty and awe.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, Thou Root of Jesse’s tree,
An ensign of Thy people be;
Before Thee rulers silent fall;
All peoples on Thy mercy call.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Oh bid our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our King of Peace.

** Different versions include various verses.

Jewel sings Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

Hark the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled.

Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic hosts proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem."

Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ by highest Heaven adored
Christ the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a virgin's womb.

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as Man with man to dwell
Jesus our Emmanuel

Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Hail the Heaven born Prince of peace
Hail the Son of righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings

Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth

Hark the herald angels sing

Glory to the newborn King!

Angels We Have Heard On High

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains

Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo

Shepherds why this Jubilee
Why your joyous strains prolong
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song

Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo

Come to Bethlehem to see
Him whose birth the angels sing
Come adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord the newborn King

Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo

O Come All Ye Faithful

O come, all ye faithful, j
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem.

Come and behold Him,
Born the King of angels

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

True God of true God,
Light from Light Eternal,
Lo, he shuns not the Virgin's womb;
Son of the Father, begotten, not created;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation;
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God, in the highest;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

See how the shepherds, summoned to His cradle,
Leaving their flocks, draw nigh to gaze;
We too will thither bend our joyful footsteps;

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Child, for us sinners poor and in the manger,
We would embrace Thee, with love and awe;
Who would not love Thee, loving us so dearly?

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be glory given;
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord...

When my children were young, we would always decorate the tree on the day our local Christian radio station would begin broadcasting nothing but Christmas music 24/7. That was our tradition. This great instrumental song they often played was one of our favorites!

*Also, check out all the scriptures toward the end of the video. :eek:

How should a King come? Even a child knows the answer of course,
In a coach of gold with a pure white horse.
In the beautiful city in the prime of the day,
And the trumpets should cry and the crowds make way.
And the flags fly high in the morning sun,
And the people all cheer for the sovereign one.
And everyone knows that's the way that it's done.
That's the way that a King should come.
How should a King come? Even a commoner understands,
He should come for His treasures, And His houses and lands.
He should dine upon summer strawberries and milk,
And sleep upon bedclothes of satin and silk.
And high on a hill His castle should glow,
With the lights of the city like jewels below.
And everyone knows that's the way that it's done,
That's the way that a King should come.
How should a King come? On a star filled night into Bethlehem,
Rode a weary woman and a worried man.
And the only sound in the cobblestone street,
Was the shuffle and the ring of their donkey's feet.
And a King lay hid in a virgin's womb,
And there were no crowds to see Him come.
At last in a barn in a manger of hay,
He came and God incarnate lay.
And the angels cried: "Glory! Glory to God!"
Earth was silent so heaven rang: "Glory! Glory to God!"
Men were dumb so the angels sang: "Glory! Glory to God!
Peace on earth good will to men, Glory! Glory to God!
Christ is born in Bethlehem!" "Glory to God!
Glory in the Highest! Glory to God!
Glory in the Highest! Glory to God!"
