I thought the 1st one of the new batch, where Han Solo was murdered by his son was awful, but my sons liked and defended it.

They went to see this new one the other night and said it was by far and away the worst star wars movie. The 1st half of the movie was a complete waste of time, gigantic unfilled plot holes, revelation that the parents of the jedi girl boiled down to a big fat nothing burger, and a star wars regular feature of absolutely abysmal dialogue. They even said there was a fair amount of SJW garbage sprinkled in.

Very glad I didn't see it.

Stefan Molyneux has a video on YouTube, about how the movie is about how white males are being marginalized in society. It was interesting.

I just saw the new one last night, so yay I can stop avoiding this topic now lol.

Personally I really didn't like Force Awakens, I thought it was hokey and disjointed, like honestly it didn't even feel like Star Wars

With that said, I really loved this new one, they went and fixed all the problems of the Force Awakens, actually fleshed the plot and dialogues out, gripping twists and turns, excellent imagery, excellent character development, smoothed out continuity of the franchise, and it actually felt like a Star Wars film. I was extremely impressed. The only real criticism I can bring is I felt like they should have had some of the older aliens from the old franchises instead of just constantly making new ones, but that's really background issue, so overall great movie.

I won't give away any spoilers, but I will say, I was extremely impressed with Mark Hamill's performance as Luke. And for the new characters whereas Rey was sort of the saving grace of Force Awakens, in this one the character that intrigued me more was Kylo Ren whom I thought was just a whiny bratty antagonist in the Force Awakens. In The Last Jedi though Kylo Ren really comes into his own as a character and was fleshed out more, and the inevitable collision course of fates between him and Rey I think adds enough dynamic to keep the series interesting.

I listened to SM's review after watching the movie last weekend. I enjoyed the movie, and I also see what he was talking about. For me, Star Wars is escapist fluff, but I enjoy it.

There's a petition going around to remove this movie. Remake it and push back production of the next to do so. Last I heard it had 45,000 signatures.

Personally nothing after the original three has come close to being as good. I saw Rogue 1 in Netflix. Didn't realize it was a movie, thought it was a tv show, like how they do with Marvel. I was surprised to realize it was a major release as I kept thinking it was tv show quality to begin with. Even with low expectations I was underwhelmed.

Rogue One was better than any of the last five Star Wars movies.

Personally thought it was fine but thought episode 7 was better. However those saying it was worse than the prequels is really overreacting. However who is Snoke, where did he come from? I guess we'll never know, if they cut off the whole casino scene it would have been better. I don't hate it like most do however.
