The Bible is pretty clear on long robes:

Matthew: 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Luke: 20:46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

My local pastors, even in an Evangelical Church, wear them still. Should i confront them about this with scripture?

I dont wanna be too judgemental because ive only been going to Church little more than a month and because i myself still struggle with certain sins. However, Jesus himself preached against long robes on religious leaders so im taking it pretty serious.

What should i, in your opinion, do?

Why do you feel you are supposed to do anything? All the people can see they wear robes. All the people can also read. Sure, be open about your feelings, but let each one decide if it is a problem to them.

Yea i meant confronting the Pastors personally.
If this is eating you up, then why not ask them why they wear robes in their office as pastor? They might give you an answer that will surprise you.

A pastor once told me that the robe was more for him - not for the people. That when he put it on, he was reminded of his calling to teach and pastor, and to take it seriously.

I asked this question because I had always felt that it caused a separation from the people he was pastoring.

This pastor was not trying to show off - or impress people. I believe Jesus was speaking about the motives for wearing a robe.

That passage doesn't prohibit wearing long robes. It warns you to beware of people who do. Perhaps you should make sure your pastor's messages are consistent with the gospel and teachings of the bible. :)

BTW, I do happen to know why some Presbyterian preachers wear robes.

obviously you have had a 'conviction' about how you feel, and since you've been only going
to this 'church' for about a month, it must be a strong conviction that is making you feel that
something isn't quite Kosher,,.follow your heart, for many wear apparel that makes themselves
feel something that they not, like set apart and special,...especially if it is gaudy, and over the top
in contrast to what the assembly is comfortable in wearing,,.God is no respecter of persons...

What's wrong with you? How dare you even think you should confront a man of God? How dare you?

Okey-dokey. I just confronted you. Are you now all open and feeling perfectly at ease under my rebuke? No? Good. Got to say, I think you'd be a bit nuts if you were.

So why do you think "confronting" him is going to work?

Honestly, I get talking to him if you have a problem, but how about assuming it might be your problem when you do go talk to him? Why not talk to him, instead of accuse him? Because you did come off sounding accusatory here.

By confronting i actually meant approaching them in a friendly manner, nothing hostile lol. Sorry i didnt make that clear.

I dont have a major issue with it, im just trying to take the Bible seriously.

Its normal in germany..they most likely wont change it. I stopped going to local churches for many reasons but not their garments. Its their business what they wear.
The lutheran churches and evangelical are mainly more catholic than anything anyways
And as far as i know they can get in trouble in some churches if they dont wear it

The most important thing about other Christians is what you hear coming out of their mouths ... Or in this forum what they write in their posts about the Message of God..

These people who wear these robes are free to read the scriptures you have read and the Holy Spirit is free to convict them if they are indeed indwelled by the Holy Spirit...

You might find it better to seek out a church website what allows you the opportunity to ask your question and get their denominations official answer..

In the end if you are convicted that it is wrong to attend a congregation where the pastor is wearing a long robe then you should leave that church.. Always seek to have a clear conscience before God..
