So I'm taking World Religions class (GREAT CLASS BTW!) and my professor claims to be a Christian and a retired pastor, but he says that all paths (referring to the world's religions) lead to God. He makes some fairly compelling evidence that each religion has a lot in common with one-another and they all stumble upon the same themes. I talked to my Dad (who was baptized as a Christian on the same day as I) about the class and mentioned that my teacher seemed to be a Universalist, saying that all paths lead to God. His response was "well...all paths DO lead to God". I was really shocked. Is this a common belief even among Christians? It has always been my belief that only Christianity leads to God and that all other religions (except pre-Christian Judaism) were created by demons.

Is my belief uncommon??

YES all paths do lead to God - but not to salvation.
All paths lead to judgment and whatever recompense God has
determined for every person who has ever lived in the history of
the world.
Every single person who has ever lived - except those who qualify for
the first resurrection when Jesus returns - will stand before the throne
of judgment and shake in terror.

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face
the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books
were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life:
and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books,
according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered
up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:

Whether we are Christians or of other religions [within reason] we are all
completely dependant on the mercy and grace of God.

Well all paths do lead to God..

One path leads to eternal life with God in His perfect eternal existence..

All the other paths lead to eternal torment in the Lake of fire.. After the person is judged by God of course..

But not all paths lead to eternal life! And that is being with God. So although other paths may lead to the bema, the judgment seat of Christ, they don’t lead to having a permanent relationship with God.

These people need to read the prophets. I’m in Jeremiah right now, and it is all about the worship of false gods resulting in the conquering of Israel and then Judah being taken into captivity. Not an ounce of room for universalism, or all roads leading to God.

Does Jesus believe in universalism?
NO

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life,
and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:

13 "Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate to hell is wide and the road
that leads to it is easy, and there are many who travel it.
14 But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard,
and there are few people who find it.
GNB Matthew 7:

Gethsemane. Jesus prayed 3 times, so distressed that He sweat Blood, to His Father basically asking that if there were ANY other Way, than Him being crucified, having His Father look away from Him for a time, bearing the weight of all our sin, and dying, so that we can live, to please take it.

We know what His Father's answer was. Can you imagine God watching His Son go through that and then hear someone say "all roads lead to the Father/Salvation/Heaven"??

Trampling the His Son underfoot? Please tell your Dad and Professor that is a horrific thing to do.

All paths lead to judgement day. God judges on judgement day. Ta-dah, so all paths to lead to God. :)

(And, nope. I don't believe all other religions were created by demons. People are evil enough not to require help from demons.)

Suggestion: Learn whatever your teacher wants you to know to get good grades on your tests, BUT spend time away from class learning the truth, so you aren't fooled into believing whatever you're taught.

get the book by Bullinger "Witness of the Stars" Adam was taught the gospel in the constellations. The names are preserved in Arabic and other middle eastern languages. The names and legends were changed by the Greeks and Western Civilization.

No,most Christians do not believe that because its false. There is only one way to God,thats what He has to say about it. Universalists have a lot of false doctrine unfortunately.

People say things like that assuming that whatever path they are on is the right one. The inclusivity and tolerance they would seem to promote is bogus, because they reject Christian beliefs as being too... fill in the blank ;) Then there are people like Oprah, who has influenced millions of people in her television ministry, telling us that she is a Christian while she outright rejects what Jesus Christ says. It is obvious she, and people like her, do not know the One True God of Scripture, for they have made an idol of their bogus tolerance, inclusivity, and imagined open mindedness. They are in rebellion against God.

No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Whether you believe that is up to you, really.

NO

5 Thomas said unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou go;
and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12.....
John 14:6....

and many others.

no other religion leads to God because those don't have Jesus in the center.

the reason why (true) Christianity is real it is because it follows the inspired word of God that proves itself to have been inspired.

there is nothing else like it.

anyone that Denies that Jesus is the only way they don't believe the living Word of God and they do not conform to the righteousness of God but to their own.

Drop the class if you can, it doesn't seem like you will be able to resist satan's tricks, and your father isn't helping.

Your faith has already been compromised. The longer you are in there being filled with lies and thinking other religions are similar or equal to Christianity, the further you drift from the truth.

I took a world religions class recently, and I was disgusted by the material on the first day. I'm taking history instead for that humanities credit.
