A couple of us hijacked another thread and were asked to take it elsewhere. So in respect for that here we are.

The discussion was if there were 9 cops surrounding a single semi-armed robber (he had a bb gun), is it acceptable for all 9 to empty their clips into him (aka fill him full of lead)?

Is this in any way related to some real-life scenario?

Would all "cops" shoot at once knowing the others were going to do the same?

Is each "cop" shooting to kill, or just to disarm the suspect with a gun?

Yes it is a real life scenario. 9 cops unloaded on a robber with a bb gun. Unknown if the robber was actually pointing it at them.

Typically, every cop on scene shoots and shoots to kill. As these did.

Yes, it's a real-life scenario. It happened just down the street from me on Tuesday. See my prayer thread for Nathan Griffin.

Nathan had a BB gun, he robbed the VSECU here, then fled on foot across the street to the high school where 6 VST and 3 MPD caught up with him, shot him then jumped on him (to subdue him) AFTER he was down and dead..

Did the cops know it was a BB gun? If someone is pointing something at police, though, they should expect the worat kind of punishment.

Why is it that (some) cops always feel the need to shoot to kill? As opposed to shooting to merely injure? I mean, NINE troopers and cops ALL shot at him. And they killed him. Yes he had a gun, yes he was armed. From the article I read in our newspaper here, it seems Nathan had a long history of being a trouble maker. BUT that doesn't warrant him getting shot by 9 trigger happy cops. Nathan was on school grounds, and there were student and other people nearby on the bike path, and cars going past because the school is right by the highway, so I know the cops had to protect them all, but still..

NINE officers shot NINE guns with however many bullets in each gun? Rather overkill IMO...

True, I agree but does it really take 9 cops and a gazillion bullets to stop him?

If ANYONE raised something like that... which looks exactly like a real pistol... I would do my best to stop him, dead in his tracks

Of course they didn't know. Just look at the photo posted.

And how dumb can anyone be to believe there is even room enough for 9 men to jump on one man? You don't even see that in football.

Which still begs the question, wouldn't shooting him to injure be the best option? I know if it was me holding that gun, and I got shot, I'd drop it and start squealing in pain...

They knew. One of the cops even remarked that Nathan had a BB gun, and said it "looked like a semi-automatic"...

Well, of course they knew after they picked it up and looked at it.

Apparently they weren't confident in their ability to kill with one or two shots. Having a BB gun is irrelevant as it is still a weapon and there was no way to know for certain whether or not it was an actual bullet shooting gun. It would not take 9 soldiers in the military to take down a single target that's for sure but that's probably irrelevant too.

As I have said before....... Who here would holster their firearm, and just trust that the other people would take care of him if he raised his weapon to fire at YOU?

Nathan obviously knew it looked enough like a real gun that he could use it acting as a real life threat to anyone's well being who dared to defy him. He wanted people to think it was real...
