    Default Just DUMB

    Current US debt: $20.6 TRILLION

$112 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities (promises we've made & simply can't keep)

Only those with a strong heart should click this link:

U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time

So, here' a great idea (NOT) just put together by House & Senate leadership (I use that term loosely) make a plan to add another $300 billion.

I have a crazy idea, lets cut some Govt spending!

During the recent Govt shutdown. I read that 45,000 Govt employee's are deemed Non-essential personal. They would be temporarily layed off. And when the Govt reopened, they'ed be paid for the time they were off. (you can't make this up) GOOD GRIEF! Maybe we could trim a little here?

I sent the White House an email and made the suggestion that the U.S. government put the 640 million acres it owns up for sale to the American public for 3500 and acre.....that would net 2.24 trillion dollars....obviously some would be worth more or less per acre, but if it could sell to the public and the businesses of the U.S. it would not only generate the sales income, but also all of the economic growth would generate taxes...building roads, houses, businesses, electric, phone lines, trash, sewage, all of the furnishings needed for the building of houses and buildings etc......seems possible to fund the government for the next xx amount of years which would allow all tax revenue to go toward paying down some of the debt......

So... do you mean the national parks?

As a nature-lover, I am extremely grateful that we have a government that has taken action to set aside parts of our country to maintain their natural beauty and wildness. Selling it off to private owners may be a quick fix, but I think the damage would be irreversible and profoundly sad. Imagine people building luxury homes in the middle of Yellowstone or down in the Grand Canyon... You know they would. Personally, I want to appreciate the beauty of God's creation without having to ignore Oprah's million dollar mansion simultaneously.

Also, we all know their are twisted people out there who would love a chance to degrade landmarks and kill wildlife just for the sick fun of it. So to see them given free reign over former national park lands would be sickening.

But maybe I misunderstand you. Is there other land you're referring to?

Not talking national parks, vast areas of land in the Western States, National Forests etc....and there could be stipulations.....but I will also say something to ponder....the United States is broke....the current debt has almost if not already reached a point that is beyond our ability to pay back....when the world figures this out we are done and the dollar will carry less value than the peso....and like Germany......it will take a wheelbarrow full of "dollars" to by a single loaf of bread.....which is worse....the loss of some ground or the end of the U.S.?

You have never heard of the
United Nations Biodiversity Treaty then? There's gonna be plenty of wildlife....just no people. An added bonus, we still get to pay taxes for it, we just have no ownership rights.

The only way we can avoid the complete collapse of this nation, is to increase taxes, and cut spending.
And everyone's attitude is tax them, not me and cut his handouts, not mine.
So one had best get ready for what dcon said is soon going to happen.

It doesn't surprise me that the UN would have something like that. I'm sure their goal is to have the whole world under their power by painting it as something beneficial to mankind. But I wasn't talking about the UN... That's something else completely.

I think the world is already aware that we are unable to repay debts... I was told that when I was a kid, but we're still here so far. The US will end when God has decided it will.

I still think selling off land in places like national forests isn't a solution. So we lose all that land and guess what? We slip right back into debt and are in a worse place than before. No amount of money will fix our country until we get our budget balanced out. We have to stop spending more than we make - a simple solution, with a not-so-simple fix. We spend millions on the most ridiculous things like refrigerators for military planes and researching birth control in Africa. Why?!? That's where the foolishness needs to stop immediately.

It's like major auto companies going broke. How does that happen when there are millions of vehicles on the road? Some say it's because of paying all their employees. But I doubt that's the whole story...

Pardon my error. I thought you were talking about the national parks and having freedom to use them. I'm talking about the treaty that limits, in some cases abolishes the right of the American people to utilize our national parks. Here's a link to parks currently controlled by UN. Friend, these are no longer our parks.

Its because no one's auditing the government. Someone needs to audit it. I bet at least 50% of all the spending they do is wasted money.

In comparison: It costs us $54 billion to fund the first year of Gulf War II. (2002. We're not done yet.) So much for great savings for years to come.

Truthfully, we've hit the downward spiral decades ago. There is no way of paying off this debt ever. We can't even pay off the monthly interest rate. Either we create a law that forces Congress to live within our means, and then cancel the debt, or America sinks.

Considering Congress is inept and Americans believe they "deserve," I'm leaning toward America sinks!

Yes, Rome is still a place. Just not the center of an empire anymore. Perhaps there will be an east and west America and the east side will still maintain DC as its capital...

I agree. Technically these places are no longer ours alone. They are apparently owned by "the world". But the reality is, if the US for some reason decided to completely withdraw from the UN, I'm not sure they could really prevent us from claiming these places as our own again...

I am signing with grief -
    I am crying in dis-belief -
I cried for relief but none would come -
Somebody help me to understand -
    Why is this land cursed?
Has God nursed us to long?
    You belong to Him -
But you go after every whim and desire -
    Liars are your pastors -
For they say no disasters shall afflict their sheep -
But they will not be able to keep the flock -
For the crops will fail and they will not be able to bail,
The water from the ship, for the drips turn into streams flowing -
Soon they will be knowing the whole boat is sinking -
But they will dismiss it from their minds -
And they will refuse to seek out the Truth -
Even though they were already smelling the stinking -
    Coming from the false steeples...

You got that right zeroturbulence, every bill that passes Congress has so much pork attached to it; it boggles the mind. The people should be fed up. Until we vote out some of the good ol' boy rascals, it will continue. We don't have a taxing problem, we have a spending problem. Lowering taxes gets more money flowing and keeps businesses reinvesting that money. That keeps more money at home. Many foreigners working here send money to their home, and that hurts our economy also.
