This is a thread for all us no good, backsliding, Christmas and Easter Christians. I'm starting this as thread to discuss good beer, cigars, R rated movies, cars with bad fuel mileage, and anything else I'm sure the holy pious will shame us over.

I just can't imagine a heaven without good brew.

Tonight I told my diet to take a hike. I went to my favorite Mexican restaurant. They have started serving a brew from Lexington Virginia, called 'Devil's Backbone.' I'm drinking the Lager style now. It has a good, smooth flavor, kinda reminds me of a Spaten from Gremany. I have only seen this beer served in restaurants, never for sale at the grocery store. Our stores have a poor selection, that only includes bud light and Old Milwaukee.

My drug of choice is nicotine. In my younger days I quaffed a few brews. I was born in Germany but have never had a German beer. Nine.

I smoked cigarettes from age 16 until my son was born when I was about 32. I will still smoke some if I'm at a bonfire, drinking some. I actually started smokimg premium cigars, and that helped get me off the cigarettes. Nicotine is like an antidepressant. When my wife left, I smoked fir several months, and had to vape, and use the patch to quit. I still put a patch on from time to time, cause the dreams are wild. I understand all too well about nicotine. The craving never really goes away.

And on that note, I never had a German beer until about 8 years ago. There is nothing like it. I'm so spoiled now, nothing but the best pass my lips. I'm a beer snob.

It appears that we're the only two backsliders here. I stopped drinking in 1992, not because I had a drinking problem even though I had wasted a few times, but because I didn't want to end up like my older brother who's an alcoholic and still drinks to excess everyday. Like I said, I'm a drug addict and my drug of choice is nicotine.

I don't believe that its a sin to smoke as I have never been convicted by the Holy Spirit but I also know that it may not be the wisest thing to do.

I see absolutely no problem in enjoying a premium cigar, I smoke cigarettes but I also had a stogy back in the day, the cheap ones like While Owl or El Producto. Never had a quality premium cigar. I smoked a pipe for a few years but gave it up because it was a hassle to always be cleaning my pipes. Enjoyed it very much though.

If I were still a drinking man I think that it would be splendid for us to drink a few and spill a few steins of fine German beer and fire up a cigar from Havana. I'll blow some smoke rings 'cause that's the type of backslider that I am.

Oh, good grief... MY thread!

I don't think Jesus would criticize us for drinking a beer, or smoking a cigar. I think he was human and understood the value in good social interaction. He DID create some pretty awesome wine, you know.

I'm a daily cigar smoker. I started smoking cig's when I was 16 or so... started dipping Skoal when I was 15. I quit cig's the day before my wife and I married, 35 years ago. I quit Skoal about 10 years later.... started cigars about 15-16 years ago.

I also enjoy a good adult beverage about every other day or so. Beer is not my choice as frequently as it used to be, simply because of the carbs. I like whiskey, in moderation, of course.

I KNOW I can quit any of them, any time I choose. I've proven it. I do not let any of those things control me.... just like I don't let food control me, or buying lottery tickets...

Jesus taught us moderation.... not tee-totalness... (is that a word?)

We are fortunate in my neck of the woods to have a craft brew place called Franconia... the guy came from Germany. His family have been brewing for generations. His pilsner is just excellent.

Those Germans can certainly concoct a mean brew. My thoughts are trending towards cigars now. Maybe break my alcohol fast and crack open one of those bottles in your pic.

It goes well with a Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve

What kind of cigars do you prefer?

If I had to choose only one cigar to smoke from now on, it would probably be an Arturo Fuente... preferably a Hemingway Signature.

Fortunately (since I can't afford those on a daily basis) I don't have to make that choice. I usually get a "fumas" type of one of the brand names like Padilla, or Upmann. I used to like some of the Rocky Patel smokes, but they are simply too pricey for what they are. For that price, I'll buy a Fuente, or a Padron.

You had me hooked on this thread with the cars with bad fuel mileage :p
