That's what a familiar spirit is?
familiar > of someone known or recognizable

the spirit of a dead person consulted by mediums and sorcerers
it was strictly forbidden in the OT Law unto death
Leviticus 19:31
(KJV) Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards,
to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
(CEV) Don't make yourselves disgusting to me by going to people who claim
they can talk to the dead.
(ABP) You shall not follow after ones who deliver oracles and to the enchanters
you shall not cleave to be thoroughly defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.

again reemphasised in Leviticus 20:6, and 27
And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards,
to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut
him off from among his people.
27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely
be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

Deuteronomy 18:
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his
daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times,
or an enchanter, or a witch,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of
these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Ghosts and other apparitions are deceptive conduct by the enemy.

God protects us as best he can by giving to us strict instructions NOT
to partake of any clairvoyance nor desiring to speak with ghosts and
spirits, nor to go to a "fortune teller" or to partake of tarot cards and
all this "spiritual" false religion.

My sister suffered a terrible haunting and persecution by an evil spirit
after she played the Ouija board on her bedroom floor as a youngster.

I do not believe they are ghosts.. But they are demonic spirits masquerading as ghosts in their efforts to deceive people.. I also believe they masquerade as UFO's and Aliens..

I have experienced ghosts
usually just after a friend has died
(never before) :)
sometimes a person is in denial of their death and refuses to do
whatever it is that souls ought to do when no longer in the body.
It usually only lasts a little while and then (I am presuming) an angel
takes charge of the situation and deals with the recalcitrant soul.

One example, was just after the death of John, a long time friend who died
when he dropped a lit cigarette onto his mattress and died from smoke inhalation.
The night after his funeral my wife and I were sitting at the kitchen table feeling
somewhat depressed about John's death.
Suddenly there was a loud knocking at the side door and as I got up to see who
was there, the knocking started at the kitchen window, then back at the door,
and then back at the window; for a few times.
Everytime this knocking between two points in the house happened the kitchen
light which was suspended on a cord from the ceiling would flicker and swing.
And it did swing and flicker real good.

John was trying to get our attention and trying to understand why his friends
couldn't see him or talk to him. Then it all suddenly stopped and that was the
end of the matter.

All my other ghost stories are to do with the death of family or friends and
sometimes their funerals. But it is only for a brief while and then it is gone.

Out of experience when someone dies the spirit doesnt always immediately leave. But it has to and are NOT allowed to stay. Most of the time ghosts are demons acting like that person to bring confusion or even haunt people.
Familiar spirits are a whole other chapter because they can be demons or else but im not gonna elaborate any further... but surely nothing to listen to or deal with.

Fazit. 98.999999999999% of the time demons are at work
I dont believe in ghosts of people staying im buildings and stuff
When people die they arent allowed to remain here
They have to leave

Familiar spirits are always demons pretending to be deceased humans.

The dead are asleep. Paul may have said: to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. OK, to close your eyes at night: presto - it is morning. It is the same principal.

Nobody is in heaven yet: John 3:13: "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven." They are asleep.

Acts 2:29: "Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day."

Acts 2:34,35: "For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool."

Heb. 11:40: "God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect."

I've studied ghosts for many years before I found Jesus and there is plenty of evidence of ghostly activity that can't be explained through science. Of course there are also cases where it was proven to be a hoax but many cases are still a mystery and still baffle science and the laws of nature..... When Jesus appeared after his resurrection he said to his apostles "I am not a ghost." Note that he did not say there are no such things as ghosts...

As far as evil spirits pretending to be someone familiar... I really don't know and I don't think there would be any way to find out...

If we're using the Bible as a guide, most paranormal phenomena are demonic in nature. It's especially evident when these spirits start talking about Jesus.

We have every reason to believe the Witch of Endor actually set up a meeting between Saul and the late Samuel. So, divination, while forbidden, can work if Providence allows it.

As for the dead, they don't make any Biblical appearances on their own. Also, the Biblical view of the afterlife is pretty cut and dry- you die and go somewhere. No sticking around to go on that last walk through the park.

Yeah but Samuel wasn't too happy about being disturbed, and he had some bad news for Saul. :p

I know angels and demons are real, and I know there are things that go down in the spirit that are not seen in the physical. Whether ghosts - spirit remnants of people who used to be alive - are real, I don't know. I have no evidence one way or the other. The only thing concrete I have is that one time Saul got the witch to call up Samuel, and it turned out bad. So if ghosts are real, I probably don't want to have anything to do with them.

Now in video games... ghosts, skeletons, zombies, all kinds of "people who used to be alive and died and are now alive again somehow" are in video games. They are so prevalent that jokes have cropped up about them. "You have the right to stay buried" when a cop takes down a zombie. "I had to kill my own family... twice!" when a guy's family turns violent from an illness, then comes back from death as zombies. "Lord Sokbor (name invented on the spot) the undead king is now dead again." when the hero of the game has defeated and re-killed the king of the skeleton army.
