Do any of you guys hear anything at night? Any weird random sounds out of nowhere? If you live in the mountains or near the woods? Anything? Tell the story of one time....

I hear the wind sometimes and the occasional owl, but other than that, nothing interesting.

In the London Suburbs we have Foxes that raid Bins and make some very weird noises. Other than that the only other animal noises we hear are Cats roaming the tiles.

Depending on the season, either hoot owls, screech owls, or coyotes.
I purposely live where there are no trains or interstates.

Not a weird sound ...I hear the sound of those speeding cars and big bikes I live near a two-lane road...when I was new here I couldn't sleep :D ...and the weird thing now is, I feel strange not to hear loud noises coming from the outside :D

"I know the voices in my head aren't real... but they have some pretty neat ideas!"

Your brain catalogs sounds and automatically tries to match them to known sources. One reason it's hard to sleep in a strange place is there are so many sounds your brain can't match to the sources, so you stay awake wondering what that noise was.

The oddest thing I ever heard at night was when my father had the flu and he was in the bathroom vomiting. For some reason he is a loud vomiter.

I've lived in the country for most of my life. Here in Oregon, I sometimes hear coyotes, and usually hear birds in the early evening or early morning. In California, I'd hear bears, foxes, owls, and once the scream of a mountain lion. The most interesting sounds I heard there was when listening to the Klamath River. Sometimes you could hear rocks rolling down stream, and sometimes the river would even sound like voices.

If you get a wind strong enough, from just the right angle, there is a tree that taps against the side of my bedroom...inches away from my head. It drives me frantic :p Wind is actually what I hear most often. Sometimes my dogs barking.

The sounds I hear when I'm falling asleep are both real and not-real.

The real one is a loud breeze from a machine. (Better than a fan.) It's my CPAP mask.

The not-real sounds I hear are vague bits of conversation. I'm never sure if I have ever actually heard the conversation in real life or if it's something my mind whips up right before drifting off, but it's usually something like the background words of a Pink Floyd song, but with American accents.

I'm not really sure what that is, but consider it fine, just as long as I know it's not-real.

just about every night there are between 2 & 5 barred owls having a big conversation in our backyard, sometimes in the oaks right outside a couple of the windows..

.. and a few cats apparently training for the feline olympics all over the house

My rabbit roaming around, tippy tapping on the floor.
