I like flying but I still get scared every time I fly.
But I enjoy cloud-watching (if there's such a term as that), so it makes flying less scary for me. :D

What about you? What makes flying less scary for you?
I went to your blog and saw the nice pictures of the cloud. You are a good photography with the literary skills to match. I love flying too and have flown many times through the years. Not once have I been afraid because I am sure of my final destination because God has planned my itinerary.

Never flown. Between my motion-sickness and fear of man-made heights, I think I would have difficulties, so I've avoided it. But I love to travel, so I imagine I will fly sometime...I'll tell you then! lol

I have only flown once and my greatest fear was getting air sick. I didn't have any problems with it though.

The older I get, the more unnatural flying in an airplane seems. Last summer I was having dinner with my daughter, her dad, and her aunt, very close to the airport, where we could see the airplanes flying in for landing so close over the river, seemingly suspended in the air; knowing how heavy they must be with their cargo and passenger loads, struck me with wonder, while everyone else just took it for granted, and thought I must be losing my mind because I commented on it. Well, I may be losing my mind, but that is beside the point ;)

Perhaps this sense of wonder has always been with me. I flew a lot in my twenties, once in an old war plane that had air coming in through cracks in the body. Anyways, I am with you. Take off and landing can be exhilarating, but the less I have to do it, the better :) People telling you things like how it is more likely you will die in an automobile accident? Nah, I don't need to know that, either. I am a very aware driver, and can move out of the way when I see some bad driver making a dangerous move near me.

You will probably find the experience of flying to be awesome. I feel that way each time I fly and that is probably over 60 or 70 flights. The most exciting parts are take-offs and landings but it is a serene feeling flying above the clouds. I feel close to God up there.

Flying has never been scary to me. Read the statistics on what your chances are of being killed in an airplane, vs being killed in an automobile.

The only thing "scary" to me (really just irritating) is the hassle of getting through the check-in, security, etc... it's a pain in the.... well, it's just a pain.

Probably the most "dangerous" part of flying is being in close proximity to so many people, breathing the same recirculated air, etc.

Yeah, the thing about breathing the air though is that is has been recirculating since Adam and Eve.

For some reason when I fly I am now considered a trusted traveler and always whisk through security. Don't even have to remove my shoes.

I remember flying after 9/11. I was at Detroit / Metro and the National Guard was there with M 16's. A lot of people had to put their hands in the air. I saw this old lady who had to be in her 80's with her hands in the air. One of the guardsman waved his wand over me and said in his walkie-talkie that he has a 'possible'. Possible what, I wondered. A minute later he decided I was harmless and let me proceed.

Another incident happen before in the early 70's years before the heighten security. I was detained at Chicago - O'Hare in a little room and interrogated for 15 minutes. After I was released I was upgraded to first class for my trouble. Not a bad deal actually.

Flying can certainly be an adventure.

Hee hee, people seem to think telling us this helps  The fact of the matter is that people are in or near traveling cars much more often than they are anywhere near to an airplane, or flying in one. I regularly drive across a bridge very close to the airport, and will slow down (if it is safe to do so) when an airplane is flying overhead, to watch it descend onto the landing strip just beyond the bridge. There are even pull-outs along the strip of road near the airport so people can leisurely spend time watching the planes come and go. The wonder of flight fascinates a lot of people. Knowing the physics and natural laws that make it all possible, does not really do a lot to squelch the dread that attends the thought of flying, though. It just seems so darned unnatural, even if it is very convenient for those who like to, or need to, travel a lot :D

My first solo take off and landing were quite exciting but never really scary. I had a student pilots license before I had a drivers license. Come to think of it the closest thing I can think of as being scared in an air plane would be when my dad performed an aerobatic loop with my brother and I in the back seat. We were pre-teens and had no warning of what he was doing.

My first time to fly was...I was crying till the plane landed on the ground but it was not because I was scared :D I was thinking of my family way back home :D

The only thing that scares me when flying is the airplane turbulence :D I remember the last time I flew leaving Philippines was a bit scary :D the airplane was so shaky that I thought it was going to crash uggghhh but It doesn't stop me from flying because there is no other way I can go home but through flying :D

It is still enjoyable the skies are amazing the clouds the different forms of the clouds :) at night when the plane is about to touch down you can see the beautiful lights, the cars, the roads, the houses, the trees it is beyond beautiful :) so peaceful from above ❤

I scuba and am not afraid of being 60 feet under; in fact love it! The surface world disappears. The idea of dropping out of the sky scares the crap out of me. I drive everyday morning and evening rush hour, and I know flying is safer, but I think it scares me so much because I have no control. The others at least give me a sense of control.... Oh goodness I have to trust G-d!!!!

I am infatuated with modern military fighter jets. What a thrill to see them take off, listen to them roar across the sky, and watch them land so smoothly. It’s awesome!

Actually flying in a jet? No, I don’t like it. The turbulence is too much for me. The last time I flew, the fuselage rattled like a tin can ready to come apart. Even the flight attendants looked worried. It was not a fun time.

What makes flying less scary?

Not being in the plane when it takes off.

Imagining the old warplane. That must be scary.
