This is not a whining about not being tall thread, but sometimes I’m thinking about what it’d be like being tall, like 5’8 or 5’9.

Is it easier going through life from those heights, than from the valleys of 5’2 or 5’3?

I’d sure wanna be like 5’9 for one day just to get to know what it’s like;):p.

I'm 6'3 and whenever I encounter someone who is around 7' tall they look like an absolute giant to me! So I can imagine that I would look like a giant to someone who is around 5'2 - 5'3 or shorter.

I’m 5”9 and the tallest of my siblings (all girls btw). There’s pros and cons to being tall for a woman lol.

Pros: Easy to reach for stuff on the shelf, can tower your older siblings, can play basket ball/volley ball without even trying, can see ahead - just to name a few.

Cons: Hard to find a man who’s taller than you LOL I’m a sucker for tall guys.

Although I do work with women who are taller than me, which makes me feel like so so small compared to them.

Ok... I was going to put in a video of Randy Newman singing "Short People", but I resisted the temptation.

There are some advantages to being short. Most of them have to do with "seating" in crowded places, such as airplanes, etc...

My wife and I are almost exactly a foot apart in height. She's just about 5' 2"... I'm just over 6' 2". I think the whole "cabinet" thing is why she married me.

I feel that I'm short for a guy. I'm not sure how tall I am, (5'7 or 5'8, if I had to guess) but most people are taller than me. Sometimes it gets me down.

The only upside I've heard is that shorter people tend to live longer. But maybe that's just something us short people tell ourselves to feel better.

Good news is that as you age you shrink.

My wife is about 5'3 and vowed she wouldn't marry a guy under 6' . Well, I'm 5'11&1/2!!.

But that's ok. I thought I'd never marry an Italian, and she's 100% Italian! I don't think the Lord likes when we vow things like that. Lol

My wife is 5' 2" . I'm as tall as you are. You are right about vows too as your 'yes' should be your yes and your 'no' should be your 'no'. God is not saying that you should never make a vow but is emphasizing the seriousness of such a vow. Of course, I believe that vows should be exchanged during a wedding ceremony as a sign of commitment, fidelity and faithfulness. What you said about vowing never marrying an Italian was probably a source of amusement to the Lord and allowed Him an opportunity to show you that He indeed has a sense of humor. He probably got a good laugh over how things turned out.

Perspective.

I used to be tall. I used to be the person at the store the short people would ask to reach something on the top shelf. I used to be able to see over crowds to find who I'm looking for. I used to be 5'11".

Now I am short. No one asks me to reach something on the top shelf, because they can tell I can't reach it any better than they can. Hubby just has to change the location of our freezer bags, because I got in a hissy-fit when I couldn't reach a box that I absolutely know I could reach just a decade ago. Now, I have to try and find a step or higher spot in a crowd to look above it. Now I'm short. 5'9"

Too tempting.

BUT, there is humor in this. Randy Newman was only 6 feet tall when he recorded this song. He was also young-side-of-middle-age. He's 74 now. We average half an inch of shrinkage per decade starting at 35-40. He IS short-people now. lol

My hubby was 6'2". Now he is 6'.

The worst I've heard in the shrinkage deal is a friend of mine who has a bad back. He was 6'4". He's 5'6" and shrinking quickly.

Moral of the story: If we live long enough, we're all short people. lol

(Oh, and you might want to remeasure yourself. I bet you're not 6'2" anymore. My dad swears he's 5'10", and yet, I'm 5'9" and can see his bald spot on top of his head when we stand together.)

A challenge for everyone over 40. Remeasure yourself. Are you really as tall as you think you are? (Probably not.)

I am 5'2"...if I stretch. I often wonder what it would be like to be tall, in a merely curious way. I am the shortest adult in my family. (lil sis is about my height, but may or may not be done growing). Six feet doesn't seem giant to me, because I'm around people of that height fairly often and am used to it. And I figure I got it pretty good by reaching 5'2". My grandma was 4'11" and the tallest grandfather was 5'9" :)

More perspective.

I have never been ashamed of my height. And yet, I would love to go to a store and not have to go to the fat-people section in hopes of finding something long enough to wear, and yet, it fits. And sadly, most of the stuff is too big for me, so I head over to the men's department to buy clothes, because, just-no. I am not spending another $10-$20 just because they needed another 3 inches of cloth to make it. 3 inches of cloth does NOT = $10-$20. They're not fooling me.

And, to go to the shoe section and know they have my size? Sheer heaven! For some reason, they think any woman with a size 11 shoe also wants high heels and white shoes so absolutely everyone notices the boats she walks on. (I'm tall enough. Why would I want to walk around looking like I'm 6'2" or 6'4"? Yeesh! And white? Try wearing white, high heels in winter. Not even. Snow turns white shoes an ugly color, and most of them are sandals. I guess they didn't want to spend the extra money for three more inches of pleather either. lol)

And, I get stared at by short men my age. Not short men in general, just the ones my age for some reason. And they start at my toes and work themselves up to my face, as if I am a sequoia to be shocked by. Granted, when they finally hit my face, they see a bemused grin, but if'n you're the type of person who doesn't like attention, (and I am), I can see where that could make you embarrassed.

Men expect women to be between 5'3" and 5'6", and if they're not, either way, sometimes they think it's okay to stare, as if staring will change the woman, or change them.

Oh, and something completely odd about being tall and a young woman at a dance. Most guys who ask you to dance will be short. Very short. And, they will ask you to dance during a slow dance, because they think they can rest their head on your boobs. For the record -- not unless you want a black eye first!!!

Just to give you a few ideas of what it's like being tall, and a woman. lol

Yup, I’m the tallest female in my family. I’m just shy of 5’10”. And I agree that it’s not often I meet a single guy who is taller than 5’10”.

Praise God, I haven’t shrunk at all. \:D/

Yes, most kitchen & bathroom sinks, appliances, and furniture are not structured with tall folks in mind, that's for sure. Ya have to stoop a lot and bump your head. LOL! Other than that, I love being tall and seeing over people’s heads in crowds and being able to reach up high. :)
