Younger people are more likely to hear Yanny. Older people or people with hearing issues tend to head Laurel.
It has been confirmed that in the original recording Laurel is said. It's the higher tones of background noise that confuses some ways people hear Laurel. Yanny has a higher tone, so the high tone background noise disguises it to sound like Yanny to some.

I heard Laurel until it was speed up 5 times, then I heard Yanny.
The radio show I heard this on, the male host age 40 heard Laurel. His female assistant heard Yanny.

I hear Yanny, what sounds like a type writer or someone clicking something, and something or someone making a brushing noise like someone in jeans moving on a fluff type couch.

Oh I get it now, lol, the rustling sound is actually someone breathing probably saying that word laurel yet saying Yanny with an overtone so as to put emphasis on it,because I can clearly hear someone clicking something like a machine.

And probably one more factor that's not hard to figure....
What settings you have for your device, for instance my phone is not "stereo" so I'm likely only hearing part not due to "so called" hearing loss but because the video maker made the video in stereo in which you must "listen to it" in "stereo" I had this same problem listening to "Yellow submarine" on my past ps3 which was also not "stereo" and so try as I did to hear the "lyrics" all I ended up with was the "instruments and tune" an old trick.
