I am starting this thread for anyone who is a movie lover and to give you my suggestions of some good flicks to check out. Giving you a simple review of the movie, content and my own personal rating (from 1 to 5) on the movie. So let's get started!

My first movie is Despicable Me, Now given this movie is animated and could possibly have no entertainment to us young adults/older adults, then you would be wrong in saying that. This movie is something that even a football player would enjoy (not to be stereotypical or anything). The main plot of this movie is for an evil genius (Mr. Gru) to steal the moon, thus claiming him as the worlds best villian, however three young girls that enter his life, turn his plans upside down through some crazy twist of events. The girls are Margo, Agnes and Edith, both very well animated and very cute I might add (you just got to love that little Agnes, lol). The main character Mr. Gru is voiced by none other than the famous Steve Carrel, who brings one of the best accents of an evil villain to life.

Now onto the content of this movie. There is no "bad" stuff I would say, besides the little kiddish humor (poop jokes basically).

Now for my rating. For this comedic, heartwarming, charming and all around entertaining film, I give it a 4 out of 5 (just due to the fact, at one of the ending scenes it made me shed a tear).

Well there you have it, so what did you think of this movie? or share one of your own movies you would like to share with others.

I have been waiting to see Despicable me for a long time now. The latest movie I saw was Never Let Me Go. I would give it 3.5. The film is beautifully shot and the story is pretty interesting. The story setting is dystopian. I have read the book the movie is based on and it's one of the stories which makes you think long after you have read the book or watched the movie.

I can't describe the movie without giving away too much, so if you are one those people who can't watch a movie without knowing what it's about, you gotta imdb it. I would say it's a love story in a weird package. It's definitely not your run of the mill romances.

It is rated R and if nudity or sexual overtones offend you, you shouldn't watch it.

Both sound like very good movies and will see if they are available via Netflix. Well let's see movie.... movie.... I haven't seen any other recent ones, but I suppose this one I will mention is fairly recent. The Fantastic Mr. Fox. This movie was miraculous in its animation, because it brought back the Wallace and Grommit style of animated characters. The storyline starts out a bit slow but gets very intriguing as it goes on. For the most part, Fantastic Mr. Fox is about a fox who excels in hen heckling and stealing other goods for his family, but when becoming a father, he must leave his past behind and start being responsible. However, Mr. Fox's character is too much of a rebel to be responsible as a father (not that he doesn't love his son, but he wants more adventure in his life). So after promising his wife that he would stop stealing hens, cider, etc... from farmers, he breaks that trust and rounds up a couple of friends to aid him in his "mission". Unfortunately by doing this creates an unfortunate consequence (one of which is Mr. Fox losing his tail). Intrigued, then either IMDB it to find out more or Netflix/Rent it for yourself. And if you happen to like animals voiced by George Clooney, then there you go another reason to watch, lol.

Content: Now This is an animated film, however I don't think it is really a film that children would have much of an attention span for, just because of the pace it moves at. This is a film that is more geared towards adults, that being said, the film is rated PG, but had some hidden adult themes/innuendos. Though nothing explicit or even mildly explicit is shown.

This movie was sill a bit slow for my taste but an interesting flick none the less. My rating is a 3 out of 5.

Thanks for reminding me (indirectly) that I have been meaning to watch Despicable Me. I watched it last night and I died of cuteness overload. I will check out The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I absolutely LOVE Despicable me!..I've seen it like three times by now..lol....Agnes is adorable! her quotes are so famous now.."It's so fluffy I'm gonna dieeeeeeee" or "Does this count as annoying?" "Unicorns unicorns, I love unicorns....so I bought one, so I could pet, now it loves me and I love it." ^_^ etc etc..... About Mr.Gru, I'd say he is classicccc....I love how he would always think of his ideas in his mind in a "ballet" sort of plan.. =D and his accent, oh myyyyyy....memorable! He wasn't a bad guy...He just needed to prove his mother he could do smth very big that she would be proud of him.. (though he was raised knowing he could achive great things as a villian...which is the bad part..).. The movie can be watched by every age! It teaches good lessons to all! Don't miss it peeps!

Oh and as for me, I have lots of fav movies....sadly my mind is not working atm to tell which are my top 5 fav.. lol =D when I'll have them I'll share em.. ;)

P.s. Filmbuzzer, as soon as I so the thread on the main threads section I imidiately thought it was you who started it.. =D

Hey El,

Glad to see you made your way to this forum and as the FilmBuzzer, how can there not be a thread on CC about this, lol. But seriously I am a movie lover and want to share my opinions and such with others who love movies or just enjoy a good flick every now and then. Well I guess I will have to list my 5 favorite films first, lol. As you can imagine this is very tough for me to do since there are lot of movies I like, but I will pick my top favorites from each genre (one from each genre).

1. Back to the Future (Adventure)
2. 500 Days of Summer (Indie/Romantic Comedy)
3. Aladdin (Animated)
4. I am Sam (Drama)
5. Red Eye (Thriller)
6. Remember Me (Romance/Drama)
7.Final Destination 3 (Horror)
8. The Birds (Vintage/Classic)
9. Stranger Than Paradise (Indie)
10. Amelie (Foreign)
11. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Comedy)
12. The Hangover (Comedy)

I know, I know I listed more than five and I listed more than one in each category, but they that is as short as I can get it, and that is really limiting the list.

One more thing I would like to add. I wrote a response paper a little while back in one of my film classes (Women in Film) and it was about number two on my list. So tell me what you think about it, not necessarily about how well of a job I did on the paper (I already got feedback of that from my professor, lol), but primairly on the content of the paper, do you agree, disagree, would you like to expound on a particular area of it? would you like to point something out about the film I did not mention in the paper. You can view/download the paper in the attachment :)

Sorry If I am seeming to active on my own post, oh wait I am suppose to be active since this is my thread lol. Anyways here is another fun thing to do. In addition to listing your top 5 or 10 or 12 favorite movies.Post a link to or explain the most emotional moment in TV or Film you have ever seen. This would be mine

YouTube - Full House | Michelle&Uncle Jesse sadest moment

Okay, so my Top 5.

1) A Walk to Remember (I am a girl, after all)
2) Before Sunrise and Before Sunset.
3) The Pianist (Just watch it, you won't regret it, but you might cry a lot)
4) Jeux.d'enfants (French movie. I absolutely adore it. I have never seen a love story like that)
5) Remember me (I know, I know. We all hate Twilight, but Robert Pat and his little sister in the movie really stole the show in the movie. Some people would call the ending shallow, I call it unexpected. I love movies where the hero is coming to terms with every thing that has happened n his life through someone else)
6) Pride and Prejudice (BBC TV- series version AND 2005 version) It's just my favourite book made into a movie.
7) The Secret Garden (1993 version) I grew up on this movie.
8) Dead Poets Society
9) Born into Brothels (Documentary)
10) Keith

I'll stop at 10. Sorry, I am a bit of a movie addict too. Have any of you seen these movies?

Anyways, I cry at almost anything, but my most emotional moment was from Gilmore Girls when Rory graduates High School. I think only the fans of the show would truly understand this moment:

"Jesus of Nazareth"

My favorite movie of all-time is "Jesus of Nazareth" (circa 1977). This movie possess an all-star cast whose composite talent (in my opinion) has not been surpassed before or since in Hollywood history. Especially powerful was the performance of the British lead-actor Robert Powell playing the character of "Jesus." I have seen many "Jesus" movies, but none of those actors gave such a strong and touching performance as Powell has (although I am sure the real Jesus did not speak with a British accent - lol).

Not all the scenes and dialogues were taken directly from the New Testament, but the few that were fictionalized are still quite powerful in themselves. For example one of my favorite "non-biblical" dialogues takes place between Jesus, Peter, and Matthew. At this point of the movie, Peter has recently become a disciple of Jesus, but Matthew has not and is still a much despised tax-collector. At the beginning of the scene Matthew meets Jesus for the first time, and after Peter and the crowd show their disgust towards Matthew, Jesus begins speaking to Matthew:

Jesus says to Matthew: "Is your own house far?"

Matthew says to Jesus: "Why do you ask?"

Jesus says to Matthew: "I would like to have supper with you tonight."

In shock, Peter says to Jesus: "You would enter the house of a sinner?"

Jesus says to Peter: "I would enter any house where I am welcome."

Although that dialogue never took place in Scripture, it definitely touches upon the heart and love of Jesus towards "sinners" which we actually do know of from the New Testament. Another excellent non-biblical scene takes place shortly after this one when Jesus connects the "Prodigal Son" parable to Peter and Matthew (I won't give that scene away here, but it is powerful!). Of course the most inspiring portions of the movie are in fact the ones that are taken directly from Scripture, which makes this movie one that all Christians should watch (I personally have see it 8 times, and it literally gets better every viewing). I would especially recommend this movie to the younger Christians here on CC, who are perhaps unaware this movie even exists. The movie is long (over 6 hours) but worth every minute. You won't regret it!

Here are two historical "Fun Facts" regarding the making of the movie:

1. Before filming began, lead-actor Robert Powell was living with his girlfriend. Director Franco Zeffirelli (a devout Catholic) did not want his Jesus-playing actor to be "living in sin" during the making of the film. Zeffirelli therefore pressured Powell to marry his girlfriend. Powell eventually gave in and married his girlfriend before filming began.

2. Before Robert Powell auditioned for the role of Jesus, Franco Zeffirelli first had in mind either Dustin Hoffman or Al Pacino to play Jesus. Can you imagine Al Pacino as Jesus? On second thought, I don't want to imagine that - lol.

I have seen a couple of The Perfect Stranger Movies. Have any of you seent he C2 short films. Basically its like something you can do with a small group that takes a second look at movies and relates them to biblical principles,. I bought Love At First Sight and we might use it for our Valentine sermon in February. I highly recommend it. The short film included in these DVD's aren't cheesy and not made to be Christian, but demonstrate good values while being entertaining. Also noted that this was created by Michael W. Smith. The next time I post, I should have another movie review thingy for you guys.

P.S.- P91, I am one who hates twilight with a passion but Robert Pattinson was amazing in Remember Me :)

Those short films look interesting. I am gonna see if I could rent it somewhere.
Hah! I am a twilight hater too. I could go on and on about how twilight has negatively influenced teens and preteens, but I'll spare you.

Alright guys, you know when you stream something from Netflix and you think it will be good, well I had 4 movies qued up to watch and only one I think is worthy to write a review about. 1st was Beauty and the Briefcase. This being an ABC Family movie, I gave it the benefit of the doubt (BIG MISTAKE), this was nothing more than a teeny bopper flick, NEXT! Secondly was Antichrist, now this movie is not what the title entails and I feel I would have to give too much detail in order to give a quick review, plus it was very graphic. Third (the movie I am choosing) was the movie Frozen, which i thought while it was scary (not in the way you think though), was worthy enough to be talked about. The Fourth one was Cool World, which I just did not find that interesting to be honest.

Alright here we go, Frozen is a film that take something of a simple fear and drastically exxagerates. Three young people (early 20's) go up to the mountains to go and ski. After some fun during the day, one of them gets the idea to ski at night. Dragging the other two with him, they are first denied access to the ski left but then persuade the manager to let them aboard as long as they make their last run fast. I bet you can already tell where this will lead. The three get stuck on the chair lift after a misjudgment by the ski lift operator and are basically forgotten about. They must figure out a way to get down from the ski lift and get back to the comfort and warmth of home. However, they will have a tough time doing so when battling frost bite, wolves and the overall snow storm on their first night of being stuck. Three go up but only one comes down.....ALIVE!

Content: This being a thriller/horror movie, you can be there will be content not suitable for younger viewers. Frozen is rated R for the following reasons. Some sexual dialogue is exchanged but nothing sexual is seen. As you can imagine, frostbite and the film takes advantage of showing that, so blood and skin being stuck/frozen to the handrail of a chair lift is seen. Blood and broken bones are seen when wolves attack one of the people who jumps off the ski lift (thus breaking his legs). Language is that of frequent F-bombs, Sh*t, @$$hole, and other mildly offensive words.

Despite the content above, this made for a good thriller, i give it a 3.5 out of 5.
