If medically speaking Tobacco is simply horrible, it kills half a million people in the U.S. each year from cancer, I think morally it would be just as wrong because you would be consuming something that is both addictive and incredibly deadly. So due to those facts it's safe to say it is a sin. And even if you have one cigarette every year it is still wrong, there's no grey area in this, so yes even consuming one is a sin.

Smoking in itself is not a sin. Although the chemicals in tobacco can lead to death. It is not what goes into the body that defiles a person but what comes out of the Heart. As a Ministry leader once told me, smoking won't keep you from heaven, it will just help you get there sooner.

Ohhh so let's all shoot up heroin and smoke weed and take some XTC and smoke cigarettes too. It's not a sin, but hey it'll help us die sooner...please.

So wyldkat , you said yourself it helps you die sooner so why don't you grab a gun and kill yourself? people who are smoking cigarettes are doing so but at a slower pace. Killing anyone even yourself is a sin for sure.

wait wait wait... God has commanded us to take care of our bodies. We must not make it dirty or defile it! How would you feel if you make a super awesome toy for your son, and a day later He is burning it slowly, bit by bit. Any action that is against Gods will is sin.

"It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth."

In the old days, it was ceremonially unclean food or food that had been offered to idols. Now it's tattoos, cigarettes, and alcohol. Jesus dealt with these questions pretty succinctly, but it seems his message is still necessary.

if smoking is a sin because it defiles our body, maybe we should just quit breathing altogether. anyone living in a civilized area where pollution is prevalent is doing plenty of damage alone to their body. contributing to said pollution would also be a sin so then we shouldn't drive either.

I was just wondering If smoking Tobacoo is a sin ?

these christians love to put on unnecessary burdens to make the
church look holy, no smoking, no drinking, it is all about the fleh.
but what one does in the inside is fine christ forgives.
if you have a drink, thats fine one does not go to hell for that?
you have a cigarette, thats fine, you wont go to hell for that?
god looks in, the spirit ,dont contaminate the spirit
if one have the spirit, it will tell when it is enough. with money also
one wont get too greedy.let the spirit do the guiding.

wakeup.

"Everything is permissible for me—but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me—but I will not be mastered by anything"
(1 Corinthians 6:12).

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. - (1Corinthians 10:31).

Amen Sevn. I agree let's all stop breathing, stop eating (the foods even vegetables are all induced with toxins and pesticides, which is not good for the health.) stop driving. And there is a huge difference between smoking a cigarette and getting high on heroine/acid/pot or drinking alcohol. Let's not get stupid with our claims Adrianv125.

Stupid? Honestly, that's a bit harsh. Also, there is a clear, day-and-night difference between breathing or driving and smoking. We were designed to breathe, and it is to our benefit and that of the Kingdom if we stay alive by continuing to breathe, if we are doing God's work. Driving is also a tool that can be used for God's glory, not with intrinsic benefits, but effecting them. Pollution has never been shown to kill people like smoking does, and the benefits of using a car far outweigh the disadvantages/risks. My main point is, how is there such a difference between drugs/drinking and tobacco? You are not totally incapacitated, but the purpose is the same, namely to bring pleasure only to yourself, which is completely unprofitable, in fact negatively so, since at the same time you are wasting God's resources that He gives us, like money, time, physical health, etc.

HMM...since when are we using the amount of deaths as a measuring stick for how destructive certain activities are? Need I mention that the amount of injuries, illnesses and deaths caused by auto-related accidents along with pollution is very significant, especially when you include alcohol and drugs (not cigarettes) into the fold. While I will agree with you in saying that tobacco consumes a heavier amount of casualties, those of which I pointed out cannot go unnoticed.

Drugs and alcohol cause us to be under the influence and do not permit us to make correct decisions. The use of tobacco hardly has the same effect. So yes there is a paramount difference between these. And since when does smoking bring pleasure to anyone? Most people smoke because they've been doing it for so long that it's become second nature.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Pollution is a worse cause of cancer.. Trust me I know more ppl who have died from cancer that DID NOT smoke, but lived to close to the border crossing from semi truck pollutants.

Wyldkat and all the people who think smoking is not a sin, I just pray to the Holy Spirit that he will reveal it to you. I don't care if you call me stupid, I'm telling you because if you truly are my brother I care about you. It is really a no brainer. I won't condemn anyone and those who will be judged will be judged because they think they are good alone with their "good" deeds. Man made up lighters, man gathered tobacco and added a thousand some chemicals to it including rat poison and arsenic. Man wrapped it up in paper. And just for the fact, any smoke (including incense, charcoal, etc etc etc just any kind of smoke) contains chemicals that CAUSE cancer, tobacco speeds up the process due to all the other chemicals in it, and organic tobacco isn't a loop hole due to the fact that any smoke causes cancer!

God bless you all

God has words for every situation. Why be chained to something most people truely don't like doing. If you need a crutch to get through the day why not use praying or reading the word instead.
