I dont think the creators or DW (past and present) believed in God... so he cant be portrayed as being better than something that doesn't exist.

That's a good point, you can't fight against something that doesn't exist. But then if it does exist, you can fight against it.

That's a big assumption. A lot of people in the UK believe in God. The series is very old. A lot of people have contributed to it.

I admit these latest ones are too scmultzy and 'Doctor Worshipy'.

He's often referred to as 'the lonely god.'

I think they're just trying to keep it in the fairy tale world, but especially during the David Tennant seasons there were some pretty profound things going on that struck me as at least God-inspired.

Like the way the Doctor looks at humanity. 10th Doc looooved humanity and always thought we were capable of so much more than we gave ourselves credit for. He seemed to always be pushing us and praising us. A lot from that season reminded me of Biblical interactions with God. Like Jeremiah... I picture God grabbing him by the shoulders and being like "You can do this!" and then cheering when he finally does.

I dunno, there have been quite a few things in Dr Who that have brought me closer to God, I think. The story is told mainly from the perspective of humanity's caretaker... someone 900 years old who doesn't really die. God isn't alone and He's also infinite so obviously it's not exactly the same thing. But I think there are moments, glimpses, of what the writers (and actors) believe God to be. It's quite moving if you allow it to be.

New Doctor kinda sucks though. The writer just isn't that good so the actors can't really act the story because I don't think they know what's happening most of the time.

rainacorn,

The trouble is a lot of your countrymen have a different idea of what Jesus and God is. They see him as some sort of Warrior God, out to smite brown people and bless the rich with more riches. Let's be honest, The Jesus in the Gospels is rarely quoted, if at all. The emphasis is put on the Old Testament and some of Pauls' teachings.

I do however relate to you understanding of the God that sacrifices, and is non-violent. :)

Sounds like you're referencing something, but I'm not sure what. This post may be carryover from some other thread perhaps?

Anyway, if they want a violent, angry Doctor, the 9th Doctor was totally that. It took humanity to teach him how to love again awwwwwww

Has anyone else watched the "Silence in the Library" episode?

Spoiler!!!!

They go to an empty library where everyone had mysteriously vanished years before. They ask the computer there what happened to the people.

The computer tells them that 4022 people were saved and that there were 0 survivors.

Very powerful episodes. 2 parts I think.

Yes those two episodes are great . They are also two somewhat disturbing episodes too . I liked how they introduced the character River . There are only a few other episodes I like better . Don't Blink, and The Pandorica Opens episodes are my favorites.

I'm Australian, so we have been watching it since it started.

In the 70s, early 80s where I lived had only 2 tv channels. One of them showed Doctor who every day.

The first Doctors I liked where Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker as a kid :)

Anyone remember "Bessie" ? the Doctor's car?

I'm making my way through the Third Doctor now! I started with 9 (and am now completely caught up with the new series) and decided to go back. I have to say that 3 is my favorite Doctor! Who do you like better: Liz or Jo?
