Self-esteem is not of God, it is of Satan himself, who esteemed himself above the Lord God of all, and was cast from heaven! No one should esteem themselves, because in this pride is built up. If you want to esteem someone esteem Jesus Christ. If you say you love him, obey him, and glorify HIM, not yourself. If you say He is your strength then He deserves the glory. You don't need doctors to tell you who you are, if you know who you are in Jesus Christ. Satan is a liar and he has deceived some believers into thinking that they can become better people, by doing good deeds.

Good deeds don't make you a good person, and you cannot earn salvation by them. Satan has shifted the focus off of Jesus Christ to evil and wicked fleshy people. They say they fast from evil thinking, but their hearts are full of evil, which is why their fasting is not good for them, nor profitable for the kingdom of God, but to be a show to people that they are righteous, who are not righteous to God but to themselves.

Awake out of sleep!! Don't let these people steal your crown!! What began in the Spirit is not made perfect by the flesh!!! Esteem Jesus Christ, who is the ONLY one who died for your sins. If you deny him, you will die for your own sins, THERE WILL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH.

Obey Jesus, follow him, stop sinning. May Jesus bless you.

Self esteem and pride are NOT the same

lack of self esteem = depression, and trust me, that is not good

pride = thinking you are worthy of some kind of reward or praise for the things you are proud of/ thinking you are better than others
THAT I agree is bad

yeah we should have self esteem but not pride. we should esteem the self that GOD created and loves, not what we do but what God does through us. that we should hold in HIGH esteem.

I think you mean pride when you write Ramon. and pride is thinking your better then everyone else and God and that is very wrong and sinful.

Deut 32:15 ¶But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
Deut 32:16 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.
Deut 32:17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. *

We should not esteem the work, but the doer of the work. In so doing you build high places to strange gods. I thought to look up that word esteem, to see if it was written exactly in the bible, and this is what came up. And this is exactly what I meant. This is exactly what happens here. We should esteem Jesus Christ and count ourselves worthless. This is to prevent pride from entering in. Satan used esteem to deceive Eve.

WOW! Yes I read it again ''then he forsook God which made him.'' WOW

May Jesus bless you!

that says he "lightly esteemed God" and worshiped other gods and idols. that is a sin. it does not mention "self-esteem"

you still need to esteem yourself BECAUSE GOD created you. not ABOVE GOD but ABOVE the World and its thoughts of you. it is more important to believe what God thinks of YOU and God holds you in HIGH ESTEEM if you walk in His ways.

Jesus calls us His brothers and sisters, would you insult Jesus' family by calling us NOTHING?

Oh no my friend. I am just trying to show my fellow brothers and sisters that there is a better way. I would not think so soon that God holds me in high esteem. Not for one second, because I know that I don't always walk in his ways. I will put God above me in everything, because only He is good. It is an honor to even be mentioned by him. I am saying that I would rather be nothing, so that HE can be everything. I would rather receive NO glory so that he can receive ALL GLORY. I would rather not esteem my power, but HIS power. This is the proper order of honor, and even praise, and even worship. Honor and praise and worship go UP, not down or around. I don't commend a believer for their duty which is reasonable since God did more. It is all of our reasonable duty to serve. I would encourage one to continue in him always, and to give him ALL GLORY AND HONOR.

There are times when I wonder what God thinks of me, I really do. And I hope I am pleasing to him, I do, as we all should. However, I see clearly the trap of this thought, that we should esteem ourselves. I would rather esteem God. Many people will have esteemed themselves right up to the judgment, and then they will hear what Jesus thinks of them, because he will say, ''go away from me ye who work iniquity.'' And many people will say, haven't we prophesied in your name? Haven't we cast out devils in your name?'' And he will say, ''Go away from me you that do iniquity.'' And he will say to some people, when I was hungry you didn't feed me and when I was thirsty you didn't give me to drink, when I was sick you did not visit me. And they will say, ''when did we see you hungry and did not feed you or thirsty and did not give you to drink, or sick and did not visit you? And he will say to them. ''Even as you did it not to the least of these my children, you did it not to me.''

So I would esteem God so that I am not lifted up with pride and fall into condemnation of the devil, which is his hope for the younger believers. So this would be an exposure of this work, this imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. May Jesus bless you.

I thought of these scriptures Anandahya:

Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
Luke 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

I understand where you are coming from Ramon but I know some woman who are in abusive relationships that have such LOW self esteem they think they deserve the abuse. so saying "self esteem is the devil" give those women less power to resist what the abusive men are already saying. that is why i posted something in response.

as for you last post here are some more scripture verses. rich man = someone who is highly esteemed among men

Matthew 19
With God All Things Are Possible
23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

I don't know if I agree with you Ramon on all points, but I certainly understand the message you are trying to get accross. I do think we have come to worry too much about feeling good about ourselves.

Definition of SELF-ESTEEM

1
: a confidence and satisfaction in oneself : self-respect

2
: self-conceit

Self-esteem - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary <--- click
This does not mean that Christians should have low self-esteem. It only means that our sense of being a good person should not depend on what we do, but rather on who we are in Christ. We need to humble ourselves before Him, and He will honor us. Psalm 16:2 reminds us, “I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.’” Christians attain self-worth and esteem by having a right relationship with God. We can know we are valuable because of the high price God paid for us through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Oh yes this is a very sad thing. I have seen this growing this depression, which is also of the devil. But the power to resist is not in self-esteem it is in Jesus Christ. This is why people have not been set free, because they have been trying to solve matters by physical means, rather than letting Jesus heal them. The blood of Jesus Christ is what prevents things like this, without that covering there is no defense set for Satan to not come in again. The words of Jesus are true, that when a spirit leaves out of a person it goes and roams around seeking rest but it cannot and when it comes back it finds its house swept and clean. Then it goes to find 7 other spirits more wicked than he is. And the last state of that person is worse than the first state. But why? It is because they had no defense in place. It is a tossing to and fro between man and hell, but no one considers Jesus. Jesus heals, but Satan blinds and deafens. It is the same reason many women run a race for the cure to cancer, when Jesus is saying, ''I AM THE CURE.'' May Jesus bless you.

God wants you to love him with all your heart mind and soul, and YOUR NEIGHBORS as yourselves. I am not saying that you should abuse yourself, I am saying don't esteem yourself so soon, as this might open up a door to Satan, who fell because of self-esteem. I do not esteem myself, I esteem God and if God should esteem me, so be it. Neither do I love this life, but I do love the life of Jesus, who lived a perfect life, and If my life is in line with his life, then I am happy. I pray it is. As I pray that anyone who loves God also obeys him. May Jesus bless you.

p.s. Our identity should be hid in Christ

Obey Jesus, follow him, stop sinning. May Jesus bless you.
When we are righteous, we feel good about ourselves. I think part of that is self-esteem and it seems like a good thing to me.

Pride is an evil thing. Pride is when we take action or say things to put ourselves above others.

I know this topic died in 2009, but I just joined read it and I have to say something.
Ramon, I understand what point you are trying to convey, and I agree on the POINT of the message you sent. The thing I see is that you are not talking about "self-esteem" that we need to use to help build ourselves, but thinking highly of oneself because of the good deeds one does. The Pharisees and Sadducees, highly of themselves because of the position they held, and they ESTEEMED themselves over all others that did not hold the same position.

I do not believe one can truly have a good self-esteem without Jesus in there lives because we are sinners. But by looking at the blessings we have because of God, we are lifted up and become happy. What greater glory to God then to look at ourselves through His eyes and see nothing but the love He has for us. And if God does not hold us in a High Esteem, then why would he have sent His Son to die for our sins? He created us with love and the greatest gift to Him is for us to love ourselves and others.

Amen my friend! One thing. Did God esteem us? He is merciful, so even though we did nothing worthy of honor or even Jesus, he still gave his Son. Isn't that wonderful? Jesus did not die to make us sinners. He died to make anyone who believes on him righteous. He died to redeem us from sin, even though we were lost in sins, to bring us into the kingdom with the shedding of his blood, which was the grace of God, and which was activated through faith. How wonderful is he then to us, who did not esteem him, but ourselves, and YET he still gave his Son for EVERYONE? May Jesus bless you.

Like many others I do not think self esteem is from satan. Pride is the evil thing

Self esteem is felling that you have worth or value, that you are important. In Christians hopefully you feel you have an important role in the Kingdom and so you operate in that job no matter whta it is for God's people.

Example: Rita had low self esteem until she finished first in a marathon. She was happy that she was able to finish and felt that all the training was worth it. Now Rita feels more confident in persuing more challenges.

What you are talking about is pride or a feeling of being worthy of certain things or exalting oneself.

Example: After Rita ran won the marathon, she knew that she was the best runner in the region. She often boasted about how fast she ran and how many people she beat.

The two examples show the same situation but a different reaction to the situation. In short self esteem gives you the courage to try hard and accomplish goals and pride is when you exalt yourself because of the accomplishments.

My friend, self esteem may give you courage to try hard to accomplish goals, which is indeed true. But it will NOT give you power you to accomplish them. It is God who gives one power to get wealth so that he may establish is covenant which he promised. If we do not acknowledge him in ALL we fall into this condemnation:

Deu 8:14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
Deu 8:15 Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
Deu 8:16 Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
Deu 8:17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
Deu 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Deu 8:19 And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
Deu 8:20 As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
