Does anyone live close to an Amish Community (or Old Brethren, Hutterite, Mennonite)? If so so do you have any friends from these communities? I have always love the way of life these people have chosen and admire their dedication to God and each other.
I also love their cooking I may be diabetic but I would gladly let my blood sugar rise a little for a good Amish meal.

I grew up Mennonite. (went to a Mennonite H.S, and a Mennonite college). I also lived with the Amish for 6 weeks once in the Holmes County area of Ohio.

I remember hearing about that CW. It was SUCH a tragedy more so because the amish/mennonite never bother anyone. In fact, they are the most polite and respectful people I've ever met. They never bother anyone. I have nothing but the utmost respect for them.

I live near Holmes County, Ohio, so I am very familiar with the Amish, and their lifestyle and dedication to their faith and their families is really great! They also make wonderful food as you mentioned and all their products are very high-quality!

My husband grew up in a Mennonite community until he was in middle school. He still has many friends there and we visit the community in Muddy Pond, near Cookeville, TN, about once a year. I love the people there . . . they are so gentle and kind, and they love the Lord with all their hearts.

Mennonites are different from the Amish. Some amish are different from other amish as well...more conservative.

I have visited Holmes county in Ohio and Lancaster in Penn. It was really enjoyable. They are such kind, gentle people who are so genuine in their faith. I do admire them greatly! Their quilts are beautiful too!

When I think about their lifestyle...I feel...wimpy? All that they go without and I have so many conveniences.
