I believe that no matter how much time we spend worrying, it is too much. Jesus admonished us in no uncertain terms, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. ... Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? ... Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:25,27 & 34)
I think the implication of this passage is clear. We should trust our sovereign and compassionate God to keep us safe from real harm and meet our earthly needs. And we can trust Him because "...we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28) And, He has promised "...As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Joshua 1:5)
The devil thrives on worry because worry creates doubt. "Does God really love me?" "How can I be sure that God will take care of me?" When doubt creeps in, faith weakens. When faith weakens, our natural human tendency to strike out on our own and ignore God's guidance. When this happens, the devil stands all too ready to offer solutions to our problems which may satisfy us in the short term, but will ultimately lead to our eternal damnation.
We all worry, but the more we can learn to really trust God, the less stressful our lives become. I can say from personal experience that when I truly turned my life over to Him, I was relieved of a gigantic burden. It reminds me of a refrigerator magnet I used to have; "Don't be afraid of tomorrow. God is already there."
God bless you all.
