A simple question really...

Maybe it's that we don't want to sleep, but then, why don't we?

Maybe it's cultural, personal, or habitual...

Whatever the case, what are your thoughts?

(personal and collective)

You saying you are a nightowl ;) .....

It may be cultural.
In some countries they have a sleep in the day a nap and have late dinners (10 pm on weeknights even :0 )

It could be habit or lifestyle ex. if one works nights or has favorite tvshow on at a late time and incists on watching.....

Maybe they want to sleep but cant or actually dont want to...

Could be outer noise or disturbances..

I had difficulties sleeping for many many yrs and was taking sleep tablets daily for it and Drs told me I should.
Was clearly addicted as without them could not sleep and body twitched and pulled in billion directions and hurt and stresslevels in body were atrocious.
All I wanted was to sleep cause then I had peace, no hurt etc
I decided to quit sleeptablets. The Dr said "no no continue" but I had made my mind up so went through withdrawal a long long time,
Now yrs later I am free from tablets (yiihaaa) and sleep beautifully and looooove sleeping
I go to bed early though even on weekends.
I looooove sleeping and need it dearly cause lots been happening.

Not sure what you are refering to in your question but the reasons are many and different lifestyles, cultures, circumstances etc

Thank you for replying babarainbowsheep.

I wouldn't say I'm a night owl, but then...the past several years would suggest otherwise.

I wasn't trying to make any inferences really. I would just like to know how others act, think, and feel on this matter.

Lol, my late nights are a due to a mixture of reasons, but that could be an entirely different thread. ^_~

Hi, I'm Karla and I'm a night owl ( everyone replies Hi Karla!):)

I don't know why I stay up late, I just cant go to bed early. I see the clock and my mind says one of two things: its early so I'll stay for a couple of minutes or WOW! now its reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally late, I should go! (that happens after the first thought ) For me its just habitual I guess...maybe I have issues I don't know hahaha. I have always liked the silence of the night, instead of making me sleepy, it gives me energy to do things, to think, etc.

Lol, nice guys.

I can relate with you Karla. If you don't pay attention, then time seems to slip away pretty quickly.

Then again, I too like the silence and stillness afforded by the night. Hmm...

Good good! Keep it up everyone! ^_^

Lol, I know right?

And you know you're going to be crazy tired tomorrow, and you really need to go to bed.

...and yet...

For me it truly depends; Sometimes I stay up a bit longer up late because I can't sleep, though most times I stay up late when my husband goes night fishing. I do prefer to sleep not much too late, as I don't like sleeping too long during daytime next day.

Before I was married, I was a night person. I woke up later in the day and would stay awake until the sun would come up. Vampire hours, basically.

My husband has to be up early for his job so now I am a day walker. I had to drastically change my own work situation to accommodate this change, but it's marriage...what can ya do.

There is still one night a week I stay up super late because I'm hanging out with my friends, but I definitely pay for it the next day (4 hours of sleep just isn't enough). I'm sure I'll grow out of that rebellion eventually, but for now I am enjoying my once-a-week-vampirism lol

I gotta say, I miss being a night person. If you could find good places open 24 hours, you could get all of your shopping done and have a nice meal without any traffic or crowds. Also I forgot how hot summers can get! If you never see the sun, summers zip right by and they're lovely.

I too go more to bed around same time as my husband. But I like it best this way. Still, many ladies that have been married much longer tend sometimes being up late even when their husbands have gone to bed. ;)

I used to be nocturnal simply because I love the night. It's quiet, peaceful, dark, and in my opinion the best time to watch a good movie. However I no longer stay up all night because I got a job shelving books at *grimaces* 7 in the morning... so that threw my schedule off a bit... I do miss staying up though.

I just can't fall asleep right away. The moment my head hits the pillow my brain activity jumps. I remember I used to tell my mom I couldn't sleep because I was thinking too much when I was a kid. I still have the same problem. :p

My vote: It depends...

Sometimes, I just like to be up late doing whatever it is I do. I either read, play guitar, write, or watch a movie. I'm not one to do the same thing over and over again, like a clock.... Sure, I'm guilty of trying to beat a video game too.

I can identify with Kooper, I never fall asleep right away unless I am already half asleep by the time I crawl into bed. It's almost like I am haunted by my thoughts at night. I will lay awake for hours and hours, tossing and turning just thinking and thinking about all kinds of stuff.

I actually had this problem last night, I laid in bed for about an hour and a half trying to doze off and I just couldn't get there. Finally, I decided to turn my tv on hoping that the volume would drown out my thoughts and put my mind to rest and it worked. I was sleeping within about 10 minutes.

I am part of the night crew. We are a group of dedicated nocturnal chat monster's/ninja's.

In place of sword's and weapon's and stuff we show up with pizza, and snacks lol.

I always stay up late, even when I know I ought not.
It's always been the best time to me, it's peaceful, everyone in their place and away from the stress and strain that makes daylight an often unpleasant place to spend time.

I suppose I've always liked being alone for some time and just in solitude, and there is no better time than to rise as everyone falls, so to speak.

I have my own business so that affords me time and enough flexibility in my schedule to stay up late. I also stay up late because for me its peaceful. Usually its quieter, and that's beneficial for me in regards to prayer. At night I go outside to pray because its peaceful and I can see the stars really good where I live.
