Any bashful responses I receive, or any "holier than thou" attitudes will be ignored.
Now, this is my first post, so let me tell you a bit myself.
I'm 18, I play guitar and occasionally lead worship at my church, I also play drums and a little bit of keyboard. Music definitely is a major factor in my life. God comes first, of course, always.
I've received many different mixed responses on the subject I want to ask/discuss with you today.
I am a spirit filled Christian, I am also a youth group leader, and play worship music, but I wouldn't consider myself a "Worship leader", as we should all be leading people into worship for our Lord, it shouldn't be focused on one particular person. I do not smoke, or drink, or anything of the sort, which a lot of people associate the topic with. I attend concerts. Many concerts. Christian concerts. Hardcore shows, would be the more acceptable term. Yes, hardcore. Screaming, bass drops, breakdowns, palm muted guitars and loud drums, kind of hardcore. Now, before I am called a heathen, please read my previous info. Do not mention ACDC, do not mention any other "heavy metal" band from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. This is not about "heavy metal." I don't want to hear about backmasked hidden tracks from old Black Sabbath albums. This is not what I am referring to. Why do people believe that attending concerts, especially hardcore concerts, is a sin?
And yes, before you ask, I do get into "the pit" and dance at these shows. Didn't David dance unto the Lord?
What's wrong with dancing to lyrics such as "Hell fear me, I am the one that will bring you down." or "Let my name be feared at the gates of hell, as I EXALT the SAVIOR." ?
Please, logical responses only.

good question... Some just seem to think that just because black metal "used it first" all metal is demonic

I personally think it is the modern version of praising Him with "sounding gongs and clashing cymbals"

You seem awfully defensive here. Nobody here has yet to make those accusations.

I think the association with sin and these concerts is first and foremost drawn due to the type of crowd attracted and debauchery that comes along with; not the music. To be fair, people get just as rounded and/or baked at their local neighborhood, unsupervised party, regardless of what music is playing.

It lies in the atmosphere.

This is an old old old argument. Its never resolved. This thread will likely result in a war. I've been in a 1,001 of these 'debates' before and i'm done with them. They're useless.
Really though, no matter what modern genre you prefer, if you go back enough you'll find all of it has its roots in the same history. People will claim that those 'root' styles and artists are bad/evil, so therefore any genre offspring must be bad as well, especially when it becomes more loud and forceful, such as hardcore.
My dad was on of those 'rock is evil' guys for a while, and as a result i was too, when i was younger. In my junior high years i got into some of the hair metal stuff, snuck a lot of it, of course. But i was always afraid of it too haha. But when i got saved is when my tastes got more extreme. Within a few short years i taught my dad that rock/metal isn't evil. Now he actually enjoys some of the stuff i listen to.
I suggest not worrying about these people. If they want to think its wrong, fine, thats their walk, their conviction. We're all at different places in our walks, and all have different ideas of what is a priority. Long as you feel no conviction for listening to it then you're doing right by your own conscience and God, and thats a decision that no one else has a right, or chance, to make for you.

Hi burksnathan;

Agree with everyone here really - especially Ugly.
Doesn't matter what it is - Your music; Haircut; Clothes you wear; Your politics.
Folk will always fear or be suspicious of things they don't understand or haven't made an effort to comprehend.
It's like deciding you don't like Brussels Sprouts simply coz their green!

Siberian,
In every other forum/conversation I've had about the topic,
I've been flamed and attacked,
and after reading the "Christian Metal" thread,
I didn't know what to expect, so I was just making sure that I made my point very stern, to avoid conflicts such as the ones that arose in the other thread.

Right, but think for a second. Do you think the people that make such attacks are the same type of people to respect that you don't want to be attacked?
Thats like a soldier walking into an enemy camp and asking not to be shot or arrested because he just wants to ask them why they are the way they are. haha.

To burksnathan: While coming in with a defensive attitude is likely to get you attacked, I totally understand where you're coming from. I was really into the Metal scene in my early to mid teenage years, and it certainly draws prejudice; although I can't say that prejudice is entirely unjustified.

Having worked in the music business, both christian and secular, i would say that there is nothing wrong with any one style music. It really depends on the people behind the noise. I have worked with bands like uneart, emmure, born of osiris, cannibal corpse, dying fetus...you name them. I have also worked with CCM type bands like, grits, falling up, nevertheless, and so on. I can honestly say, i have found more passionate, more on fire christians in the hardcore scene then in the "Radio Christian Music" people listen to. Sure, i could tell you horror stories of both sides of the fence, but the point is i believe its about the heart attitude behind the music, and not the notes themselves. Whether its a sick double bass rift, a violin solo, or a face melting triangle breakdown, its about the heart.
