Default Be ye holy

The fourth "Be" that I want to talk about is found in Levtticus 11:45,
For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to
be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

This verse repeats itself in 1st Peter 1:16, Because it is written, Be
ye holy; for I am holy.

I want to talk a little bit about Leviticus Chapter 11. This is a chapter
in which the LORD is speaking unto Moses and Aaron. He wants them
to instruct the Children of Israel about what meats they were allowed
to eat and what meats they were not allowed to eat. The meat that
they were allowed to eat was consider clean and the meat that they
were not allow to eat was consider unclean, abomiable, and defiled.
And as the old saying goes, you are what you eat.

Now we will look in 1st Peter 1:13 - 16. Wherefore gird up the loins
of your minds, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to
be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ: As obedient
children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your
ignorance: But as he which called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

We are told that we need to gird up the loins of our minds, be sober.
In other words we need to guard our minds from allowing just any thought
coming in, which would corrupt our morality.

Leviticus Chapter 11 warns us about eatting contaminated meat. Meat
that was unclean, abominable and defiled.

Your thoughts are meat to your mind. Are they clean pure thoughts or
are they contaminated with worldliness?

Your thoughts control your actions and your actions control your life.

And if we christians are not careful of what we listen to and what we watch,
then hollywood will contaminate our christian values.

Growing up as a kid, I would watch shows like Casper the friendly ghost
and Bewitch. When I got older, shows like Ghost hunters and paranormal
tv.

But as i started studing Deuteronomy Chapter 18, I began to realizes that
the programs that I was watching was offenses to God and that I would be
sinning against him if I continued to watch them.

Deuteronomy 8:9-14 reads, When thou art come into the land which the
LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations
of those nations.
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or daughter
to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or
an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or
a wizard, or a necromancer.
For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD, and because
of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times,
and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee to
do so.

1st Thessalians 5:22 tells us, Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Philippians 4:8 tells just what exactly the thoughts we should have.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Being holy is just not a pentecostal thing to do, but it is a christian thing
to do. So no matter what denomination you are, if you are truly a christian,
then you will want to be holy because God himself is holy and he is not
only your God but your Heavenly Father.

Good question..It says in the bible that cud chewing animals with split hooves can be eaten(Leviticus) 11:3... Deuteronomy 14:6, what some of the meat we can eat..Cattle,sheep,goat,deer and gazelle families...Deuteronomy 14:4-5... says cant eat camels, rabbits and pigs ther unclean..Leviticus 11:18 and Deuteronomy 14:16 is where to look ..

Now i practice the same teachings as the old testament..I dont eat the pig, shell fish ect...I believe that it is not good for the body and could be hard to for the body to process..some believe that it is OK to eat the sinful foods due to the new testament..I truly believe the less sinning i can do the better..so i dont eat them...Ther is something written in the new testament about not judging in what other eat when it come to clean and unclean foods...Ill have to look that up another time..Im so so tired now..Hope fully someone will no what was said....

ok i hope this is not to messed up..Im tired.. there is another passage that says in Mathew 15:10-11..What goes into a mans mouth does not make him unclean but what comes out of a mans mouth is what makes him unclean...Now in the book of Leviticus chapter 11:7 it is recorded that god declared the pig to be unclean for believers..then verse (8) god says" You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses.; they are unclean for you..

This command is repeated In Deuteronomy14:7-8, and Isaiah 65:2-4 and 66:17. God issues a stern warning against those who eat pork...Now in Matthew 5:17-20 Jesus us reported to have said quite the contrary as follows-" Do not think think that I have come to abolish the law. Jesus then went on in verse 19 saying to denounce anyone who would bread the smallest commandment and teach other likewise..One of the commandment as we have seen is to say away from pork and unclean foods.... No this is why the true followers of Jesus holding on to his teachins, did not eat unclean foods..

Go and read 5 chapter later in acts of the apostles 15:29 (Paul) and then 6chapterslater in chapter 21:25 ther decision to impose food regulation on believers is mentioned with out regret..At this time Paul is challenged to prove that he is in engagement with them. What remains then is tha Jesus on whom peace , upheld the prohibition against pork(unclean foods) his disciples also upheld it and so must his followers! But we are not to Judge anyone about what they eat..Now this is why i dont eat unclean foods..I have enough sin in my life and this to me is easy...

Alot say that by Jesus grace that we can eat the unclean foods and alot say im way to old testament as well..I love all of the bible and dont believe that Jesus really wants us to break the fathers commandments..that's my opioiun..amen

I hope this helps you some
