How close is too close

So the question is should we as christians and parents (if/when we have children) to protect ourselves and our children from non christian influence and if yes then how much?
By influence I mean school, friends, hobbies, entertaiment (books, movies, games etc.), place where we live and so on.

Man, i really wouldn't want to protect myself or kids from non-christian influences at all. I think as a parent, i would want to be more of a guide then someone who is just throwing down rules. We are commanded to be in the world, but not of it. Take in mind that i don't plan on letting my kids do whatever they do, but the reality is if you are sheltered from reality all your life, once you are exposed, you won't be able to handle it. I hope for my kids is that they are well rounded individuals.

I don't forsee them being well rounded if they only know one half of life.

The bible says raise our children in the way they should go and they will not depart from it. That's saying to teach them about god and be the example for them. Engrave the christian life into them and be their example. You can't shelter a kid or person from the world, and they may stray but when they mess up enough they will come back to the values and what they have seen and been taught. Someday they will see the error in the way of the world and realize better gods truth after their own trials and errors.
