"Whispers in a Storm"
1Kings
(19:11) And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:*
(19:12) And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.*
(19:13) And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Forces of nature. They are very powerful and potentially destructive forces. God has used them throughout history to *demonstrate and show his power to men. To man they were terrifying in their unpredictablity and path of destruction they left behind. Having these traits made it easier for man to except the power of the one in control of them. GOD
Although God controls them. He guides them. Determines just how much force they will have. Oversees every aspect of each individual element of these events. But he doesn't have to be "in" the chaos and destruction to be in control of it. Simplified, the wind is just God turning on a fan. Rain, a garden hose with a sprinkler. Then turning them off when the desired results have been achieved.*
I don't believe God likes using these extreme examples of his power. But is forced to because it takes drastic measures to get our attention alot of the time.*
I think though his power is just as evident in the "storms" in our lives. He is not in the midst of those storms either. Instead he is standing right next to us. Quietly telling us he is there. But the chaos and "noise" is so overpowering that we can't here that "still small voice". We are to busy crying out for help we can't here his voice over our own "screams".*
But he is there in his ever present position by our side. Calmly and clearly telling us exactly what and why this is happening. God speaks in whispers. So until we can hear over the din of the raging storm we will not be able to hear him. In that respect we are much like terrified children in the midst of a thunderstorm.*
Or in the case of our worldly activities. So busy "hootin and hollerin" having so much "fun", we can't hear or are not paying attention enough to hear God standing next to us whispering.*
I know it is pretty hard for me to hear someone over the noise associated with the equipment I work around. Even if they are practically yelling. It is almost imposible to hear a whisper. Think you could hear whisper in the stadium at a sports event, NOT !!!
The storms in life are just the evidence that God is there. That if we can listen close enough we might be able to hear him. Though maybe not as clear as we woul like. But rest assurred as the chaos and noise subsides his voice will remain there whispering to us. That even in our own self imposed noise he is there whispering, waiting for us to be quiet enough to hear him.
I have come to really enjoy my quiet times in the morning. Listening to the comforting "whisper" of Gods voice. Before the chaos and noise of lifes storms start up for another day of "potential disaster"(if Satan gets his way). Those whispered instructions can sustain me through the day. Something to focus on when the storms are raging at their strongest. Gods words will remain strong. Ever present in the time of need. * * *
