Ok guys, let's say you were invited on a missions trip to help preach the gospel to a small tribe of people, who had never heard the gospel before, located on some small remote island. My question to you is:

What book, other than the Bible itself, would you take with you?

My answer:

Knowing that it was going to be my responsibility to not only teach what it means to be a christian but also to demonstrate through my own thoughts & deeds what it means to be a christian, I would like bring with me a book that would not only remind me of the simple basics of christianity in order to teach them but also would encourage me to live out those simple basics. That book would have to be:

"The Culture Of The Kingdom: A Call To The Sermon On The Mount Lifestyle" by Billy Humphrey

While I have read several books regarding christian living & spirituality over the years, I have never read a such a small book (only 119 pages) that covers more ground on how to live like Christ. Essentially, it helps you to understand that Jesus' "Sermon On The Mount" wasn't just words of spiritual inspiration, it actually sets the standard for christian living.

I love the book because it plainly not only explains in modern and simple terms what it means but also describes how to walk in perfect love, how to love your enemy, to be poor in spirit, spiritual mourning, biblical meekness, to to hunger after righteousness, to truly be merciful, to be pure in heart, to be a real peacemaker, to be persecuted for righteousness sake. All of which are vital to living a life in Christ-likeness.

This book is a must for all new & young believers who sincerely want to understand what it takes to life a genuine christian lifestyle. I also recommend this book to those who may feel that, for some reason or another, that your walk with Christ is lacking.

I'd take my Circle Trilogy 3-in-1 hardcover. I have the Bible, so any other book would just be fluff. Why not take along the best Dekker trilogy of all time? It displays the love of God and affects of sin in a captivating page-turning way.
