I personally believe smoking cigarettes is sin. Because, it is a drug. Even though it is legal here on in this world doesn't make it right. But people always say "oh, no its not a sin." "Its not harming anyone, so, it can't be a sin." "cigarettes aren't in the bible." Cigarettes fall under drugs. It messes with your mind like drinking, porn, and drugs. Cigarettes even become peoples 'gods' they can't go one day without it.

I think calling cigarettes a sin is going a little too far. I am not sure as to how cigarettes change your mind. You can not compare cigarettes with drinking. In my opinion that is an inaccurate and unfair comparison. A person who smokes a cigarette can still function properly while a person who becomes drunk can not. As for people "worshiping" cigarettes I don't think you fully know what the word worship means. If I were to eat the same thing everyday would you consider that worship? People who smoke generally just have an addiction and it has nothing to do with them worshiping cigarettes. You can become addicted to anything, but that doesn't mean you are worshiping that particular thing.

Also I would like to say I personally don't like smoking. I can not stand the smell of the smoke or the breath of the people who do smoke. Yuck! No matter how much they brush their teeth their breath just smells awful. Also I know what smoking can do cause my grandmother smoked for the longest time ever. She would smoke almost a pack a day I think. I was young when she finally quit so I don't remember exactly how much she smoked. Anyways, because of this she caught pneumonia numerous times and eventually had COPD. She had an oxygen tank and couldn't leave the house without taking oxygen tanks with her. All of her problems mainly came from the fact she smoked and that was straight from her doctor.

Cigarettes are an idol we place before God. How many Christian smokers do you know that, when presented with stress, run to a cigarette before prayer? Probably most. Cigarettes create an addiction, which takes control out of your hands, and you're not allowing God to be in control either.
Also, cigarettes are known to actually cause levels of anxiety in smokers. You don't smoke for a while, and this addiction, this craving, takes over you. You become fussy, irritable, and unpleasant to be around. You have to smoke, get to your idol, to calm you back down.
And we don't need to even mention the health problems and the number of smoking related deaths each year.
Show me where addiction, idolizing and giving yourself a number of severe illnesses would be acceptable, if not sinful behavior.

Do you not have another stress reliever other than prayer? By that I mean don't you have something to help you until God does? God isn't just going to snap and make everything better. I know cigarettes are not the best solution, but at least they don't go get drunk and try drive themselves home. Look at it from this point of view do you consider someone with a food addiction to be living in sin when they overeat? It is basically the same thing. People eat to relieve stress, they are bored, etc. Same reasons people smoke. People can become addicted to eating. People can become addicted to cigarettes. Overeating, especially overeating junk food, will harm your health. Cigarettes harm your health as well. Is overeating a sin?

We have to be careful how we judge. Nicotine and caffeine are drugs but because its a socially acceptable sin we over look it.

If you are hooked on your morning cup of Joe or you need that morning cigarette, you are a drug addict.

How dare I say such a thing ....

The Bible say.... It's not what goes in the body that will defile man.... it is what comes out....... and goes on to list all the things that comes from the hearts of man............ cigarettes is not one of them... and tobacco is a plant, as well as all things that are in a cigarette. If smoking is a sin, only when people are upset and need to calm down, what is it then when they are happy. no one prays to a cigarette, don't seek them to help with bills or health issues, if smoking is a sin, then what do you say about all the people who take mind numbing medications for depression, or bipolar? although it is legal real drugs, and they have no control of their thoughts or emotions what will happen to them for not taking God at His Word? smoking is not a mind regulator, neither do it have control over anyone's emotions........ yes it is not easy to stop doing something you got used to, even God knows how to help all those who seek and trust Him for help to stop anything that they or God do not like. We ought to not put man made commandments on the church of God..... there is more than enough things God want to deliver us from that is spoken in His Word..... these are the things we ought to be praying for and hoping all will be delivered from........ everything that man was not created to put in their bodies is dangerous...... to him that it is sin.....it is sin. So if God said for you to stop doing what ever, rather it is in the bible or not, you better do it..... yet, if it is not in the bible then just because God told you to do it, doesn't mean He is telling everyone............

I think the main concern here is ones physical health, and what smoking leads to, such as cancer, lung and breathing problems, birth defects, and much more. Any thing that alters the mind or mood, and can become an addiction which cigarettes are, is sin because you are a slave to whom you obey!

You are destroying the holy temple of God, its very unhealthy for you and those around you, but any addiction such as food, caffeine, alcohol, drugs, plus all the addictions of the flesh such as porn watchings, TV and sports addiction are sin also.

Rom 6:16 Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves to him whom you obey; whether it is of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness.
Rom 6:17 But thanks be to our God that you were the slaves of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

God warns that if you destroy your holy temple He will destroy you, which to me are strong words from God, no to be taken lightly.

1Co 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1Co 3:17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God shall destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which you are.

I just don't see smoking in moderation as being OK, as to its addictive qualities, so its good not even to start it or try it.

Most are unwilling to give up anything for God especially thier smoking, and other addictions that hamper thier relationship with God, and leave them in a lukewarm state, still in bondage to thier lusts and passions.

If repentance and faith were preached correctly right from the start, then this wouldn't be in question, as a truly repentant heart who has actually crucified thier flesh with Christ as commanded, will have no problem forsaking thier smoking addictions along with porn, adultery, worldliness, and drunkenness, etc..

Some will also say it doesnt matter how you live your life, as long as you accepted Jesus as your savior, then smoking and other addictive behaviors are not good or healthy, but have no influence on your salvation!

But I think the above scriptures make it clear how we are to live on the narrow road, and also to be a strong example for the lost who love thier smoking, porn, and Drug addictions, lets come out from among her, be seperate, guard the heart from all and any addictive habits, and count the cost of living right and healthy before our God who is a consuming fire!

tobacco might be a plant but not all the chemicals that also are put in it. They put stuff in cigarettes that people put in bombs. Is that a plant? I don't think so. The what about nictoine? That goes to your brain. The when people stop smoking they go into withdraw because the body isn't getting nictoine no more n their bodies have to start produceing the chemical that was in their body before they started smoking. And we ought to not put things unchristian like in the church of God to.

So I have been told numerous times by numerous people that all sins are equal. Since all sins are equal why are we only focusing on things like homosexuality. I have been told for a person to be a practicing homosexual is like a smack in God's face and that you can not knowingly commit a sin and call yourself a Christian. Well think about this if smoking is a sin then think how many times a day a person smokes. Some people smoke a pack a day. How many times a day do you think a homosexual person "practices?" To me it sounds like our view is skewed.

In my opinion, smoking it'self is not a sin. It's an addiction that is hard to break and that has terrible health consequences. I'ts best not to even get started with them because they cause a strong physical dependency.

To have an addiction is not sin. To willfully feed it is.

Don't see smoking as a sin, but certainly very bad for your health and if your are a Christian and smoke, you need to seek God's help and grace to help you kick the habit!

I mean I smoke, and I drink. There is a huge difference though between just doing it occasionally and being abusive about it. All things in moderation.

Smoking is unhealthy for our bodies. Knowingly doing something to the body that is proven to increase the risk of cancers and other diseases is an indirect slow self abuse. Not to mention it can affect the health of your loved ones. And it hurts them to see you smoke because they want you to be around for a long time.

Caffeine in moderation is not unhealthy. In small doses it can help you to live longer, and green tea can reduce the risk of heart disease. So can moderate amounts of wine.

Therefore I think smoking is a sin and moderate supplementation of caffeine or alcohol is not a sin. But getting drunk or wired to the point where it affects your health and control of behavior is.

God did not design our bodies to be healthiest when we sin. That will be a big clue.
