This is Harry he is my favourite house plant on my bathroom window sill.

Now Harry has a little story to tell you....
Once upon a time Miri decided to go to the garden centre to see if she could find a plant for the bathroom window. She looked high and low but could not find the right one. Eventually she came across the bargain corner and their she spied me.

In my prime I cost £6.00 but I had fallen on hard times and my value was now a mere £1.00. I was the only one of my kind all dried up, neglected, and crammed into the middle of the bargain section towards the back. I was on my last legs (leaves), my life draining away with shrivelled up brown leaves gasping my last breathe.

Then along came Miri, who reached down and pulled me out from the rest. She took a good long look at me and something must have caught her eye. For the next thing I knew, I was being beeped past the scanner and carefully placed in a bag and then carried out into the big wide world. I so scared I closed my eyes and when I opened them again, I found myself on a nice bright window.

Miri watered and fed me, she removed the brown leaves (which did not hurt too much).
After that she dropped by to see me every morning and evening and contiuned to give me so much food and water, my saucer overflowed.

Day by day I could feel myself getting stronger and now here I am, 3 months later with leaves bursting out all over.

Ahh this is the life.

Harry xxx

I like the mini roses and cactus also, although Harry does not like cactus, they prickle his leaves.

By the way does anyone know how to keep a ponsetta alive until the next year - they all seem to die off on me.

Oh yes. I love plants. I have some at my place. One is very special to me. It comes from my best friend's place. She died of a cancer many years ago. The only problem is-i have a cat who likes to chew (or eat) my plants.

Miri, you are awesome, LOL. I love Harry. My favorite houseplant is a Banana plant, it looks similar in growth habit to Harry.

As far as keeping a poinsettia alive for a year, it is extremely difficult. They have been bred up to be little more than annuals. They are VERY prone to pest problems, and when the systemic pesticides wear off, they pretty much kick the bucket. :( Sorry to be a downer, but this is what I know to be true.

I have a small cactus in my room, as well as a small bamboo plant, that I guess would be my favorites.

What not even a toe nail hahaha.

Maybe you could start with a blade of grass in the garden. Weeds r pretty easy to grow also. Everyone can grow them.

I appreciate that! It looks kind of terrible now though, summer's when it really looks smashing. However, there's a Sansevieria that's about to bloom, and I'll upload a picture when it does. Cheers!

I know this is an old thread, but this is for Miri. I hope you are as happy and healthy as the banana plant, who had a smashing season.
