A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
...

She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.

She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Right okay, well I'm glad Im not married I think I would struggle with the bit about buying a field and planting a vineyard, not to mention making clothes
for the entire household.

Maybe someone needs to come up with a modern day version and dare I say it, to have one for men and one for women. :D

I've read the whole book of Proverbs, not just Proverbs 31. I discovered that Proverbs also describes the Proverbial Man of Noble Character, allthough you won't hear many men or women raving about that. I just wanted to share that description with you. I hope it blesses you as much as it has me.

Man of Noble Character
A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel. Pro 1:5
Reprove a wise man and he will love you. Pro 9:8
Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. Pro 9:9
...a man of understanding holds his peace. Pro 11:12
The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered. Pro 11:2
A good man will obtain favor from the LORD. Pro 12:2
A wise man is he who listens to counsel. Pro 12:15
A prudent man overlooks an insult. Pro 12:16
A righteous man hates falsehood... Pro 13:5
Every prudent man acts with knowledge. Pro13:16
He who walks with wise men will be wise. Pro 13:20
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. Pro 13:22
The sensible man considers his steps. Proverbs 14:15
A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil. Pro 14:16
He who is slow to anger has great understanding. Pro 14:29
A man of understanding walks straight. Pro 15:21
...he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. Pro17:27.
What is desirable in a man is his kindness. Pro 19:22
A righteous man who walks in his integrity-- How blessed are his sons after him. Pro 20:7
A wise man scales the city of the mighty And brings down the stronghold in which they trust. Pro 21:22
A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself... Pro 22:3, 27:12
A wise man is strong, And a man of knowledge increases power. Pro 24:5
For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of calamity. Pro 24:16
A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished. Pro 28:20
A fool always loses his temper, But a wise man holds it back. Pro 29:11

The most publicized Proverbs are usually the ones about women and wives. However, Proverbs contains a plethora of wisdom and knowledge vital to the entire body of Christ - not just women and/or wives.

A wife of Noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than a new iphone
her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value
she brings him good, not harm
all the days of her life
she picks healthy food instead of junk
and cooks with eager hands

She is like the foreign ships
bringing goods to America
She gets up while it is still night
she provides clean clothes for her family
and gives old ones to the needy.

If anyone else wants to come up with more...:D

Its not about being the perfect wife, but this gives us a guideline of what a Godly Women looks like and this Godly Women does not struggle because it comes naturally from the Heart...So all she does for her husband comes from a giving Heart one full of Scarfice. I'm hearing alot of I'm glad I'm not married and what about the Man version...This was meant for the Women for this reason.
We are learning how to be women as the world sees fit...that as soon as Scarfice is mention we give many reasons why we won't do it. Something is not right with your Heart if what you can get out of your scarfices are your only concern...This world if full of Worldly Wives and Women, when does the cycle Stop?

I like Becky's posts on this site...but title of this thread makes me think "iiiickkk".

Some of these traits sound like they would require I be heavily medicated in order to pull off,
(that's assuming the noble wife is allowed to keep sane). :p:p

I've been reading Christian Chat threads for a good while. However, I never felt compelled to post until I saw this particular thread - Woman of Noble Character. Pr 31 along with the rest of Proverbs is especially close to my heart. I want to thank Becky216 for posting the description of the Woman of Noble Character. It's a very timely passage and wonderful conversation starter.

I'm hearing alot of I'm glad I'm not married
If reading the description of the Pr 31 woman makes some single women grateful for their singleness, so be it. Paul felt the same way. After counting up the cost of being married, he concluded that an unmarried person is free from the concerns and anxieties of marriage and are more able to do the Lord's work and think about how to please Him (1 Co 7:32). There is absolutely no shame in being gratefully single.

what about the Man version
Solomon wrote and/or collected Proverbs and passed that wisdom along to his son(s). He was a well rounded teacher. He taught his son(s) about the disadvantages of being foolish. He admonished his son(s) to exercise wisdom. Then, at the end of Proverbs, he made sure his son(s) understood the description and value of a virtuous wife. In most Christian circles, males are taught to recognize and expect a virtuous wife. So, if and when a man considers the value and role of a virtuous wife, his concerns are treated as reasonable and legitimate. However, if and when a woman considers the value and role of a husband, she is often criticized and accused of being selfish. It is perfectly reasonable and legitimate for a woman to consider a husband's responsibility in marriage. Just like it's perfectly reasonable and legitimate for a man to consider a wife's responsibility in marriage. Solomon was a very well rounded and thorough teacher. He addressed the responsibilities of both men and women, yet the Christian community often fails to follow Solomon's teaching example and address both sides. Far too many Christians have become comfortable and satisfied studying the description of the virtuous wife while OMITTING the rest of Proverbs and the valuable descriptions and lessons it has to offer.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Ti 3:16). All includes the entire book of Proverbs - not just Pr 31.

This world if full of Worldly Wives and Women
The world is full of worldly wives and women!. Solomon called them foolish women/wives. However, it's also true to acknowledge that the world is full of worldly husbands and men. Solomon called them foolish men. The truth is that women/wives should be encouraged to be virtuous, and men/husbands should be encouraged to be wise. Solomon understood that, and that's reflected throughout the book of Proverbs.

Once again, I would like to thank Becky216 for posting the description of the wife of noble character. It's a very timely and relevant passage.
