I have thought about this over the years, if not going totally but partially to save money and be more efficient. Has anyone ever or knows of anyone that has done so and can give good tips on how to change lifestyles to save money and live healthier.

I am all for all natural products and organic foods, trouble is they are very expensive in the stores, any advice on "how to's" at home when you live in a city type environment and don't have land to try and grow your own things? Is there a good way of growing some things indoors or maybe on a back porch?

With the economy the way it is and things slowly getting worse all over, I am seriously looking into making changes and living a more efficient and simpler lifestyle.

I would love to one day have one of the old cooking wood stoves. I think it would be so much nicer than using electric or gas stoves. Also if something happens to the power you still are able to cook as well as stay warm.

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread and hope to get real constructive answers, please be respectful and no negative comments please. This is not a debate just one person inquiring about a different and simple way of living.

God bless :)

you could make a container garden. We used to do that when we lived in an apartment. They sell the foundations for them, but you could make one. We used planters to grow tomatoes, peas
and peppers. They came out great. Oh and miracle grow is awesome.

You're welcome. I find it very rewarding to grow our food. It tastes wonderful too. Good luck.:)

I think organic food is great.

But personally, I can't grow anything more organic than a computer program.

Well, I don't have a green thumb so I am not sure if I will be able to grow anything either, but I sure want to try. :)

Growlights and microgreens.

ok let me back up. you can purchase growlights and seeds for sprouting and for micro-greens. Sprouts and the greens are super healthy. Sproutpeople and wheatgrass.com kits are two vendors i know off hand. Most, if not all, sell non GMO seeds

Thanks Powemm and Ilovecoffe, both good ideas. Everything just has to take a backseat right now, I have no money to do anything or for bus pass to go anywhere. Been unemployed with no money coming in for some time now. But I will keep these things in mind when I am able to start making some serious changes and can afford to get started.

God bless

Before there was refrigeration there were many ways of preserving foods that are all but forgotten now. When it was discovered what a help to help Yogurt is, there was a lot of research done on these ways of food preservation.

Now it is called probiotics, lots is written about it. Some say that refrigeration has done a lot to damage our health, that fermentation is the healthy way to preserve.

My husband made saurkraut, one of the foods they recommend. Then he canned it, so the heat killed the health benefits. I tried to make it and failed completely. Some people are so successful at it that they hardly need their refrigerator.

If you google "fermentation" you can learn all about it.
