We often see people come into the church with these struggles and never truly get free. They come for a while and then usually end up in one of three camps. The first camp is the camp of CONDEMNATION. The people in this camp go to a church that preaches righteous and holy living. They know the Word they are receiving is the truth but can never seem to get it to work out in their own lives. Try as they may, they live in a state of continual condemnation, always feeling unworthy and unable to obtain victory. But because of their love for God and/or their fear of HELL, they remain in the church, often putting on the MASK of religion so nobody sees the struggles they are going through. The second group also continues in a church, but they find one that preaches a gospel of GRACE. The grace these Christians follow after is not true grace but a LICENSE TO SIN. They hear messages about how to have a successful career and how to keep a positive attitude, but they're never challenged to confront STRONGHOLDS that may be at work in their lives. The church avoids pointing out the spiritual strongholds and often justifies them with a doctrine that says- AS LONG AS WE'RE IN THE FLESH, WE CAN'T BE FREE FROM SIN! although this kind of teaching brings freedom from the feelings of condemnation, it doesn't bring the freedom Christ died for us to experience.
