When you look carefully at Mark 16:18, you'll notice that Jesus promised recovery. That recovery could be instantaneous, or it could be a process that is prolonged over a period of time. The words "they shall" are from the Greek word echo, which means to have or to possess. But the tense that is used in this verse doesn't picture something that is instantaneous, but rather something that occurs progressively. In fact, the word "healed" doesn't speak of an instantaneous event either. It is the word kalos, which in this case means to be well, to be healthy, or to be in good shape. Taken together as one complete phrase, it could be translated, "...they shall progressively feel themselves getting better and better, until finally they are well and healthy."

This lets us know that all healings do not occur instantly; some of them take place over a period of time. But Jesus' promise is that if we will follow His example and lay our hands on the sick, God's power will be released into the body of the afflicted. If we are releasing our faith and believing for healing power to flow from us to the recipient, healing virtue will be deposited into the sick person's body. Just as medicine slowly works to reverse a medical condition, the power of God that was deposited with the laying on of our hands will begin to attack the work of the devil and progressively bring that sick person back into a state of health and well-being.

Jesus promised that any believer could do this! Any believer, including you, can lay hands on the sick and see the sick get better and better until they are finally restored back to health. All that is required for God to use you in this way are three basic criteria: 1) That you have a desire for God to heal through you; 2) That you have hands to lay on sick people; and 3) That your faith is released to activate the power of God to heal. If you can fulfill these three requirements, you're ready to get into the healing ministry!

Healing the sick is part of your responsibility as a believer. You cannot do it alone, but the Holy Spirit is present to impart His power when you act in Jesus' name. So rather than look at sick people and feel pity for them, why don't you pull your hands out of your pockets and go lay them on those sick people, just as Jesus did when He was ministering on the earth? The Word of God guarantees that God will work with you to bring healing and health to those who are in need. Why don't you get started healing the sick today?

A testimony is best way to prove Jesus does indeed heal today.
For me there are two ways I can say 'yes' He does and has healed
many today.
I am one who is spoken of in the topic who was slowly healed.
I have been used of Him to lay hands on the sick. God is truly waiting
for us to be ready to let Him use us in whatever manner He leads.
Any thoughts or testimonies to share ?

Very well said J-Kay. A believer does not understand the power they have, in the name of in the name of Jesus and His blood.

I have never personally witnessed someone being healed, although I have experienced other interactions with God.
I have seen plenty of people who were christians who were prayed over by tens, or hundreds of people, even more. No healing there. I have been prayed over by two well meaning people with no result.

I often question is it my lack of faith or theirs? We can see in the bible many examples of people being healed in both cases. Some, like the woman with the bleeding were told their faith healed them, some like the kid who fell out the window and died, were made alive again by others faith.

I don't really think the power of Christ healing comes slowly though. Citing this example in Acts 3:6-8 Then peter said, ''Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.'' Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, an instantly the mans feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk.

There are plenty of well meaning people who pray for healing and they will ask you how is your pain level, I see no biblical basis for this. Power from God is not slow or untraceable, it is awesome and instant in these areas. The man did not stumble to get up he jumped to his feet.

I really don't know if this power exists anymore in the church, at least where most of us are concerned. Perhaps this is why when the antichrist comes with his miracles so many will be deceived, since they will finally see the power they hoped for.

I think that the power is still in the church, I just think that most of us forget that the healing has to be done in Gods timing not mans.

DJ .... I am living proof healing does come slowly in some instances.
And it is for today, because I would not be as well today as I was few
years ago. My body had a meltdown, and I was so weak I could not
walk without help. Out of nowhere it happened, and it took nearly
2 years to be able to walk with out the weakness and actually walk
quickly. So, when I started this thread, it is to show indeed I am living
proof, it was a gradual healing.

Some people have to undergo chemo for cancer. There is not an
instant healing there. Do you watch programs that share testimonies
of instant healing? I understand your doubt but it is a matter of your
own disbelief. God bless ~

I think there are many ways that God heals. Sometimes it is a miracle answer "yes" to a prayer. But there are lots of other ways that God heals. Sometimes our illness is a direct outcome of something like the resent we hold to a parent, and when we learn how to give it up we are healed.

I read of one person learning to overcome it simply by acting as if they had by doing nice things for them until they meant it and the illness they had, one they had no idea was related to the resentment, went away.

I have a prayer shawl I love. It has many things about it that makes it relate in my mind to my Lord. It is hand woven of very natural wool, it has the tassels the OT tells that God told the Hebrews to have, even the colors of blue and white make me think of God. It is large. It is blessed. I let no one even touch my prayer shawl.

One day my bipolar friend came to see me, she was in great pain and distress, she hadn't taken her pills. I watched her pace and wring her hands, watched her wild looking eyes. Then I explained to her about my shawl. I told her I would let her use it, but that she must respect what it meant, that she was to put it over her head and think of it as shutting out everything but the Lord. She agreed to do as I asked.

I wish I could give a verbal picture of how her face changed, and the look of wonder she gave me. Then of shock. Her only words were "that is powerful". She was suicidal when she arrived, she was calm when she left. I don't think she understands yet that it wasn't the shawl, but how she used it.

I am very elderly, I sometimes lose strength and feel ill. As I sit quietly listening to my Lord after I have gone to Him for cleansing of all my sins, I can actually feel Him filling me with what the bible says is shalom. It has strength and healing in it.

Not sure what I mean by it is a matter of your own disbelief, so I won't be offended by that. I do not watch tv with programs that have to do with instant healing.

The examples I cited were of instantaneous healing, not over periods over years, Jesus didn't say to a guy stretch out your hand and it got better over 2 years. It was healed there on the spot. Healing by chemo over several rather torturous months or years isn't what I would label miraculous healing, again, by the plumb line of what healing is in the bible.

God made our bodies in a wonderful way , the body is designed to repair itself, to me, getting well over time isn't a miracle, its the way God made the body. Probably way to many commas there.

Anyway, again, I don't think healing doesn't happen. I just think that given the biblical examples, it doesn't take place nearly as often as most people imagine.

DJ, I went back over the article and I found mostly teaching about
healing in general. I don't think I am understanding what we are
really meaning. I don't see miracle either. I mean, I don't see miralcle
is an everyday event. However, some teachings from my experience of
the Charismatic movement way back when, it was expected.
It was after I became ill and it took nearly 2 years for me to be able to
have strength return to where I am able to do more than I could.
I believe the article is telling us to use the gift the Holy Spirit has put
in us when we received Christ, to lay hands on the sick if He nudges
us to. I have prayed for people to be healed. I can't say I saw a miraculous
healing at any time. I know only Jesus can do this. My prayer would be....
"Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." Amen ....
God bless you....

Yes. Yes, the spirit by which Jesus arose is the same which Jesus promised to his disciples.
Healing is not called a fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22), but it is a gift of the spirit (1 Corinthians 12:9).

A man at my church was informed that he was going to die very soon. Doctors gave up hope, but the church prayed...some fasted. Eventually, the man who became paralyzed and forgot names and basic everyday knowledge, that man got up.
He now sings in the back of the church and has since invited me to his home. He is still recovering, but the Miracle Worker
still uses people.

This is a great example of what God can do. I can't understand how some can't believe
in healing for today. I was reminded as I read your testimony, God does want to hear
us ask HIM for our needs. God bless you ~
