As someone who only came to Christ a couple of years ago, this may be just a sign of weaker faith, but are video games an okay thing for a 30 year old Christian to be playing? I've enjoyed playing games for many years, and have Christian friends my age that play them, but part of me feels that it's not really the best use of time for a post-college adult Christian.

Video games are fine in moderation. If they are not interfering with your relationship with God, your work life, social behavior, family, etc, then it's fine.

I play video games a few hours every week, when I have free time that can't be used doing other activities. You don't want it to dominate your life (like anything else), but it's okay to do :)

Video games are a hobby like any other. As long as you don't let them rule your life its fine.

As long it don't become an obsession, longs it don't take away your time away from your focus on God. also, it does depends on the type of games too. Like if you have horror games with demons, monsters or evil spirits, spells and magic. As games like those can influence the mind, and your heart, and again it can rob away your time for God.But I play games, But more on simulators. But I made a specific day for playing games. I' not saying that you have to do the same, but God does not want us to be without fun, but at the same time, he don't want you to let things to obsess your time you have for him

Unbiblical, interesting view. Most things of the World are also this way,yet we partake of them.Video games can serve a useful purpose in ones life.Perhaps not the theme of the game, but its use in how our mind is used to avoid pitfalls through the game we play. How fast on our feet can we think?

Did we for see something during the game?In life it is important to look ahead as well. To avoid pitfalls others may set for us.Becoming aware of such pitfalls is most helpful in not falling into them. But to view ones own life as it is just a game is not good either.

For from the decisions we make can have a much more lasting effect upon our life. You can not go back and do it over as in a game.Although many of us wish we could!! lol The purpose of a video game is the same as T.V.or the computer or anything else that looks to entertain us away from the time of the Lord we should always take! God does not mind if you watch a movie, depending of course of the effect that movie can have on you, going to the mall, being on the computer etc... But how much are we looking to have quality time with our Jesus does matter to him.

10-12 hours doing something the flesh enjoys as opposed to maybe 10-15 minutes we choose to have with our Lord?Kind of out of balance a bit isn't it? And we wonder why God does not answer our prayers??( proverbs 12:1)(Proverbs 11:1-3) Notice not just a sin here!

It is an abomination because of the lasting effect that can come from it! To harden ones heart to never change! An example of such please look at mark 6 then really look at verse 52!! For they had not gained any!! insight from the incident of the loaves but their hearts were hardened! A false balance brothers and sisters can do this. To those who believe video games is a sin to you, cool do not partake of it! For those of us who enjoy this sort of entertainment just know as is T.V. that is all it is. And make sure you balance is good. amen

I think it depends on how you play the games and what games youre playing if youre playing games where youre murdering innocent people, doing drugs, and a lot of other violent stuff its not appropriate.

The people who tend to have problems with computer use and video games, tend not to have the same problems with being 'sports fans' and gun owners.

If you think Granny should be put to death for reaching level 65 on candy crush, but you are sitting there polishing your shot gun and watching football, then I'm more worried about you than Granny.

I have to disagree highly, if video games are unbiblical then so is sitting around, eating, cleaning... video games are simply for a relaxing time. Please don't make statements you do not understand.

Like a couple of months ago I saw a interesting video on youtube of a testimony from someone who claims Jesus spoke to them about this very subject. I know, I know, "youtube testimonies, great source that is" etc etc But I'll share the jist of it, take from it what you will. But it kinda hit home with me because I'd play a lot of competitive games. Various types of shooters and military related games etc etc, even got into the Witcher and Dark Souls franchises like 6 months ago because I got them for free from that Xbox games with Gold feature..

Anyways the main reasons why it was advised if not demanded that a lot of these video games are to be avoided was because of the desensitization these games cause. Desensitization to ACTUAL murder and a desensitization to the act of imposing your will on another. You can see how this type of programming effects non believers. A lot of these kids online are cruel, expressing their anger through racism and all kinds of hatred- and for what? For what appears to be an innocent game? You see it making them mad. You see it with these competitive games especially.

Now how it was said that the deception works is that these games, they give the user a false sense of self worth by exercising their will against others which makes the user feel like they accomplished something by forcing themselves upon others. It gives them a false sense of self worth by way of imposing aggression on others. Then there was the addiction aspect of these games. The Idolatry it forms in kids. There are kids who just can't stop playing. Gaming is their world. It was said in this testimony that Gaming is our adversary's answer to life's problems. It's a world to disappear to when life is too hard for a lot of these "Gamers." Went on to explain how the whole conception of Video Games was meant to get younger minds off of Christ at an early age. I'm sure everyone's heard or read in the news how not many kids, just a few kids have killed their parents because their parents took Call of Duty from them as a form of punishment etc etc. It's crazy how some kids are effected by this.

But yeah, the testimony in the video just exposed the whole engineering aspect on how these games destroy the soul and mind and how the target is to get people numb from a young age and to fall into fantasy, an idle and idol type state. That this is done through all sorts of secular entertainment. Video went on to claim that Jesus isn't trying to deprive you of fun, that he's just asking that we be smarter than our adversary since he's had an extensive amount of time to hone his skills of deception and corruption. Also mentioned to stay away from games that openly depict sin etc etc

Again, just something to think about. Don't get all defensive or anything lol.
Anyways, this scripture came to mind for some reason so I'll share it.

1 Corinthians Chapter 6

[SUP]19[/SUP] What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
[SUP]20[/SUP] For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
