Okay sorry to put my foot in it guys but I want to talk about masturbation! Now I understand that people have various perspectives on this matter and its rather taboo. On the other hand I have spoken with a lot of Christians (and non-Christians) who have felt quite powerless to tackle a habit that has in some cases dominated lives. Lets be honest many of us have been indulging in it for many years yet we tend not to talk about. Neither do most people consider abstaining as an alternative. On the other hand i am aware that several of my friends have successfully stopped masturbating (and viewing pornography) and have enjoyed richer lives closer to God as a result. I have been told that quitting mindfully and having a support network of people who are in a similar situation whatever their background and wherever they are is really helpful. This is a temptation that can in some cases take over peoples lives and interfere with daily activities but with Gods help I have been free of this sin for the first time for a few days now. If anyone wishes to join me on this quest or can post their own thoughts or some messages of advice it would be great. Sorry it feels a bit strange typing this!

Good to meet you and God bless.

I think what you are talking about goes much deeper, and it has been a part of my Christian study for some time now. I haven't touched on masturbation, but on the connection between the physical and spiritual world. Much of our church teaching is dedicated to saying it is only as we live in the spiritual that counts, but I am finding that the two worlds must be thought of as connected to arrive at truth. The physical without seeing the spiritual counterpart leads to death. The spiritual without it leading to the physical expression of that makes the spiritual useless.

Paul, Peter, and the Jews started this argument that is taken to extremes and made into things it is not. The Jews said those people who actually eat dirty pigs can't be even let in our synagogues to hear scripture (they had no NT at that time). The gentiles said that if this is about eating and circumcision count me out. God said He is about the gospel, not about what you eat. I have been checking on people who use doing for worship, even without knowing how the crucifixion applies, and finding the doing alone sometimes shows more fruit than all our following the heart without any doing. I am not God, so I can only see their fruits as expressed in our world.

If you follow that line of thinking, then sex and all relating to it needs to be thought of in the way God thinks of it. God has a lot to say about it, too much for a post. So masturbation is related to sex without an understanding of what it is. Our actions and what we do has a connection, so the act pulls us away from the truth of God. If we were filled with the beauty and meaning of sex as it truthfully is, we would not be pulled toward this use of it.

Search mastUrbation.. the correct spelling may help your results. This is a topic that gets a new thread every week or two.

I currently have this problem, but i'm working on it. It really is a tough habit to break. Lust is definitely one of the things I need to overcome. All I can really think to do about it is ask God for help.

1. there's no biblical instance where spilling of seed is ungodly save in the example of not carrying on the line of the family when it was customary
2. masturbation fed by lust/lustful thoughts is not godly
3. making a habit of feeding sexual desire by habitual masturbation can be considered an issue and a fine line between assuaging sexual desire and feeding an addiction

That's as good a summary as could have been done. I did not venture to do it, as I have posted it many times, which is why I suggested the OP consult previous threads. Perhaps the OP will have a specific question. More likely than not, it will result in another long thread of debate as to whether your #1 is Scriptural.

Perhaps thinking of dead kittens ...or gardening ...or doing ones taxes would be more appropriate?
