Use this thread to talk about the latest movies you have seen! I'll get the ball rolling.
Year One -It had its moments, but wasn't that great. Tyson -A really interesting documentary about the famous boxer. It really humanized him, and made for a touching human story. |

Amazing Grace
- I really loved this film, inspired me to learn more about the details of the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire and elsewhere, also had a really good score. Battle for Terra - Repetitve story and far too short, not good at all. Tuck Everlasting - Someone on here mentioned this to me so I checked it out, interesting idea but nowhere near enough focus on the character's relationships and histories made it a fraction as good as it could have been, not bad but also a bit too short. Fireproof - Saw this one mentioned here as well, good message and good production values considering, but the acting was inconsistent, good soundtrack and I enjoyed it for the most part. Outlander - I liked it, blended Science Fiction and Vikings quite well and underneath all the action was a good moral message in the backstory of the main character, plus Jim Caviezel is one of my favourite actors. On the downside using the shaky camera method is something I really dislike and they did a few times in this movie. Last edited by Matthew; October 15th, 2009 at 05:34 PM. |

The Devil and Daniel Webster - A World War II propaganda film that begins as a retelling of Dr. Faustus, but inexplicably ends on a theme so jarringly patriotic that it might as well demand that the viewer BUY BONDS WHEREVER THEY WORK OR BANK. Interesting, in that it features the devil in the form of a pinch-faced old transient in a deerstalker that steals peach pies. So, basically the devil is a lot like me, minus the deerstalker.
The Boy With Green Hair - Another old WWII-era flick, this one about a boy whose hair turns green for no logical reason. The script does eventually explain for what purpose the boy's hair turned green, but it never explains HOW it happened, or to what extent his hair being green expounds the protagonist's message. Creative, if a perhaps a little too syrupy. |

Is early September "recent" enough?? Hahaha I enjoyed "Julie and Julia" big time! Very well done with sharing both main characters stories, loves, dissappointments, and challenges. Very good movie!

I saw "This Is It", the Michael Jackson movie, tonight. It was good, if you like watching MJ perform, because it was just basically full-length numbers from the rehearsals. I was hoping for more of a documentary, and this had bits of behind-the-scenes stuff besides the musical numbers, but not much. It was interesting, but probably could have waited for the DVD.

I saw New Moon today, it was O.K. but not any better than the first one and I think stories that evolve through several films should steadily improve with each instalment but this didn't really get any better, had a few problems that held it back but decent entertainment for the most part.
