My fiancé and I plan to be married after I graduate in 2016 with my Master's degree. We know we want to have our wedding in fall but we can't make up our minds on colors/theme. We don't want our ceremony and reception to look like Thanksgiving and we will not use pumpkins anywhere because his mother (who lost her battle with lung cancer last summer) loved pumpkins and Charles says that seeing pumpkins all over the place would upset him and he doesn't want that to take away from our day. He doesn't want pink anywhere. We know that a lot of it will be DIY to save money so we can devote more to the experience/atmosphere and food. I've been around Pinterest and The Knot and found lots of ideas but I'm still kind of lost. Any suggestions?

We have a TON of pine cones on our property, so I googled craft ideas -- WOW! You can spray paint them any color you want -- to me they say autumn because they mostly drop then. You can really have a lot of fun. I don't know if you have any forest nearby where you can pick them up for free, but even purchasing them is not very expensive.

Google Images ---> autumn wedding colors purple. Pretty, and not Thanksgiving-ish :)

My parents' neighbors have a few pine trees near the fence and a lot of pine cones drop in their yard so I could do that. My grandma used to do lots of crafts with them so that's a good idea that I didn't quite think of before.
