Well, the clothing that is worn in some cultures contrasts starkly with the clothing that is worn is western societies. It is one of the most obvious things that stands out about someone when you see them walking down the street. It is a reminder that the demographic composition of your suburb is changing, and that can make some people uncomfortable.

Not wishing to single out the islamic clothing style, but I personally find the full body burqa particularly objectionable, and would support proposals to have it banned. Not being able to see someone's face is horrible in my opinion, and I can definitely understand why people would feel intimidated in the presence of a group of people who they can't even see. A sense of anonymity is introduced which leads to suspicion, and erosion of the community fabric.

You know what I don't understand about that attire?

It's that they can wear their full bodied covering (with as little as just the eyes showing) and DRIVE A CAR!

HELLO!! What about peripheral vision? I've always found that odd, and well, dangerous to say the least.

Other than that, no issue with the attire, if that's what they wanna wear, I just don't think they should be able to drive whilst wearing it!

I like your embedded pun there, Sharp. And I respect your point. But "objectionable" could even more easily be applied towards popular fashion in Western society. Lots of bosoms and bottoms making their way out of clothing and into the light of day nowadays.

Wow I didn't even mean to make a pun. :)

I agree that not wearing enough clothing is more objectionable than wearing too much. I'm uncomfortable with both extremes and wish people would just wear the right amount of clothes!!!!!!

Personally I don't have any problem with people wearing different clothes from the norm, but I have to agree with you for the full body burqahs. There isn't even any law in Islam that requires them to wear the whole full body thing, so I don't see why it should be allowed, considering how dangerous it can be (Bank robbers dressing up in them to hide their identity and so on.).

well for eveyone who reads this I hope you learn something coz I just learned it :

I have a Muslim friend in school and she told me they wear them, only if they are married. And it is because they are so precious to their husbands they hid them away...like if you have a £40,000 necklace - you put it in a safe :S

I personally would never want to wear them..but this muslim friend of mine says she will wear them when she gets married - which is prearanged

Also my mum and dads friends came for dinner last night and they said someone phoned them up and said can we use the school hall to hold a coffin in until they get buried
- and our friend said y dont u just use a mosk
- and the guy ( muslim) on the other end said - WHAT? they have no soul - they dont deserve a mosk
end of story

so they cant be that precious

Also - a muslim woman did a sucide bombing
and you know how many do it and their prize is 72 virigins in hevaen
her prize was to be one of the 72 when her husband comes to heven - if he does a suicide bombing

I thought they were all quite intresting sotries :D

They have to wear the clothes because of the man who are unable to control themselves (everybody understands this) when an evil woman shows a leg or arm.
