Matthew 5 :
[h=3]Believers Are Salt and Light[/h][SUP]13 [/SUP]“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Kay what a wonderful post!

Thanks Lexi.... It was my devotion last night. Gave me so much to think about.
One thing came to mind was how we are a light in a dark world. I am always
intrigued at the thought even the dimmest light in the dark, will be seen.

You know the salt losing its flavor ? It makes me think of food tasting flat. As
Christians we can become 'flat' , no longer flavorful to the unsaved.

So we have light that is dim, salt that loses its flavor and it could make for
a pretty dull witness. I believe as long as there is still even an hot ember,
a flame can be started again. Salt, hmmm, when it loses it flavor maybe
we could use it by throwing it on icy sidewalk and melt it for safety. We
just need to refill the salt shaker with fresh salt and be useful and tasty
again. ~ Do I make sense at all ? ~ LOL ~

Yes, you make sense. I really like the analogy you used about the salt that has lost it's flavor. Great post, thanks!

Thank you Toska... I like your quote (signature) ....

I also feel salt is important for our nourishment physically. Isn't it odd how
we can become dehydrated and need salt to function mentally and physically?

Then the Lord tells us not to let the salt He gives us to lose its flavor ? He
knows the more salt we have, the thirstier we will become. Therefore we
will drink from His living water. ( The Word. ) We can't survive without it
can we? God bless.

I think one problem today is that some people want to be a light. . But only in church. If the church is full of shining lights what good is it gonna do the darkness outside of it ? The light stands out when it is thrust into darkness. We are going to stand out in this world as a light for Christ when we are surrounded by this dark sinful world. That's why we are to be a peculiar people . Great post... very thought provoking. :)

Hi Pipp: I like your thought regarding our keeping the light on 'only in Church.'
It is true so many have become so into ourselves we often forget the Light needs
to be taken out into the dark world.

Have you ever been around someone whose face seems to glow ? I mean a
Christian ? It is a sure sign they spend time with the Lord. To my way of thinking
I feel that is one of the most beautiful way of being a Light.

I keep thinking of the commercial... We are the Motel 6 and we will leave the light
on for you. That came to mind as you spoke of the light and the Church. How fitting
the two are.

We may ask the Holy Spirit to renew our lamp so our Light will be brighter so others
will be drawn to Christ as a moth is to the flame. God bless you for sharing. I
agree totally ~

And thank you! I have always loved that quote. In the short time I have been a Christian, I have learned that we cannot survive without His word. I honestly hunger for it and am learning so much.
