In my boredom, I decided to list a whole bunch of topics for discussion. Feel free to write your opinion and write as much as you want. However, do not criticize (e.g. "How dare you..."). Also, if you want to add more to this list, please do so as a reply or start another thread. Some of the topics read like a college short-answer examination so some of you may be taken back to your college days.

Write the number next to the statement you are responding to. Some are "controversial".

1. I believe as a Christian war can and must be abolished. On the contrary, Our Christian duty should be to maintain peace and avoid international conflict.

2. Many Churches avoid welcoming same-sex couples (I know a few). I disagree. Anyone can be saved and a churches duty is to welcome lost souls.

3. Political advertising on church signs should be eliminated.

4. Women can be ordained as ministers.

5. Matthew 5:16 in affect to the poor and the lost even if it means overcoming some of the largest personal vendettas.

6. Discuss Luke 6:27-28

7. Assuming, as a Christian, that in order to be a good Christian requires you to be either Democrat or Republican is absurd.

8. Protecting the natural environment is a Christian deed.

9. Tattoos are okay on Christians. If not, I'm in trouble :(

10. Any music is fine as long as the Christian listening to it is feels okay about it.

11. I believe Social Justice is a Christian deed (read the book of James). Agree?

12. Discuss if Christians should support same-sex marriage.

13. Exploration of other cultures and religions as long as it doesn't conflict your current religion is okay. This is also an opportunity to be a witness to the one true religion.

Fun topic:

14. Discuss Christianity and modern holiday icons (Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, etc.). Feel free to take this topic anywhere.

1. I believe as a Christian war can and must be abolished. On the contrary, Our Christian duty should be to maintain peace and avoid international conflict.

you are mistaken.

"There is no peace," says my God, "for the wicked."
(Isaiah 57:21)

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
(Matthew 24:6)

2. Many Churches avoid welcoming same-sex couples (I know a few). I disagree. Anyone can be saved and a churches duty is to welcome lost souls.
I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”
(1 Corinthians 5:9-13)

3. Political advertising on church signs should be eliminated.
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
(Romans 13:1-6)

this says respect and honor the government, not advertise for it or against it. other agencies do plenty of political advertisement as it is. we belong to a different Kingdom.

4. Women can be ordained as ministers.
the apostle Paul disagrees with you, and if you want to hold that view you've got to deal with this scripture:

I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
(1 Timothy 2:12-14)

5. Matthew 5:16 in affect to the poor and the lost even if it means overcoming some of the largest personal vendettas.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,

did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.

(Philippians 2:3-7)

6. Discuss Luke 6:27-28
see above ^
and consider:

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:8)

7. Assuming, as a Christian, that in order to be a good Christian requires you to be either Democrat or Republican is absurd.
For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
(Philippians 3:18-21)

we are citizens of a different Kingdom. the republicans are not "the party of christianity" and the democrats are not "the party of christianity" and neither is any other party. all of them will readily lie to you to secure your vote.

8. Protecting the natural environment is a Christian deed.
You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it.
(Numbers 35:33)

9. Tattoos are okay on Christians. If not, I'm in trouble :(
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?
(2 Peter 3:10-11)

10. Any music is fine as long as the Christian listening to it is feels okay about it.

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
(Ephesians 5:11)

11. I believe Social Justice is a Christian deed (read the book of James). Agree?
There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.
(Deuteronomy 15:11)

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
(Matthew 25:40-43)

12. Discuss if Christians should support same-sex marriage.
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
(Isaiah 5:20)

13. Exploration of other cultures and religions as long as it doesn't conflict your current religion is okay. This is also an opportunity to be a witness to the one true religion.
To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
(1 Corinthians 9:20-22)

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.
(Colossians 2:16)

For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

(1 Timothy 4:4-7)

by the way, putting 15 topics in a single thread is a poor way to interact with a forum.

each of these ought to be a separate topic.

i replied to you but the rest of the forum will likely see this post and pass it by, because each of these topics is also likely already in a thread of its own, or should be its own topic. check out the "bible discussion" section of the forum.

welcome to the forums =]
