I think we need to combat fear. The Bible says that God didn't give us a spirit of fear. Anytime we give into fear, it is ungodly. I am sure we all have fears, but to remove clowns from places due to some people's fears of them isn't logical. The truth is, the fear of clowns is actually a deeper rooted fear. It isn't so much the clown itself, but I believe it is that the person has a painted/hidden face. So, the fear is moreso that they don't know the person and, since they can't see facial features clearly and such, they feel that there is danger lurking there. The same can be said of children and people that fear men with beards.

Most, if not all, of our fears are truly tied to something else, something deeper. There are some exceptions...but I'm not a psychiatrist, so I haven't looked too deeply into this. I think that if we remove the thing that causes the fear, the deep rooted thing, we're better off than hiding the thing they are afraid of, i.e. clowns. :)

This whole idea is bizarre. Clowns don't phase me. Never have. I don't get it.

Meh I never really could understand why people are afraid of clowns though I do know a handful of people that are for some reason terrified of clowns.

I do not think clowns are evil either. One of the most Christian women I ever met was my middle school crossing guard and she did work as a clown part time. Obviously she wasn't in clown garb when we'd walk home, but for us few kids that have to walk she'd do special things for us a few times a year like make us balloon animals. She would often go out of her away to make us smile and to amuse us. She also talk to us about some of the things she learned as a professional clown and showed us some cool stuff.

Now with public schools its not kosher for the employees to talk about religion at all. However she would often talk to us about God whenever we'd engage in conversation with her and she was a very wise woman indeed! She wasn't pushy on teaching us about God, not like an evangelist, but merely if we brought up a relevant topic she would give us her input. She wasn't shy about telling us about the turmoils of the world nor shy about telling us about the healing power of Jesus. I have to say even though she was one of the lower level employees in the public education system, I learned just as much, if not more, from this woman than most of my teachers.

So I would say if you want to defeat the fear of clowns remember behind the paint and red nose is a human face, and though not all humans are good, many of them are in fact very good people that merely want to entertain and bring happiness to people.

White faced clowns often can be scary, because they look human... but they don't really. The mind knows this. And it's pretty freaky. The brain is like... SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE!

I work with clowns a lot. And they can definitely be obnoxious. Clowning is hard too though. Staying in character at all times, and being "happy" when kids are kicking you, saying rude things to you, and treating you ways that they would never think about treating anyone else. There's no way I would do it.

i never liked clowns. i had a bit of a bad experience.

with my very limited clown experience, i found the energy is wonky. as my mom tells the story, she claimed it was the first time i'd recoiled around a person (or situation for that matter).

perhaps it's the paint (as you stated GLR), but i think i found the energy wonky ... for lack of a better word, disingenuous.

like "i'm going to act silly and joyously happy. but i'm not happy."

further evidence that you should actually be rather happy if you're a clown : )

p.s. cute picture GLR!
