Every year we celebrate on the 25th of December (for most churches) the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ as He's our Savior. This date carries a lot of meaning in our hearts. To cut the story short, we consider Him the God Who incarnated to become like us, the sinners; to save us from our sins.
Through time, unfortunately, most Christians have lost the 'concept' meaning of Christmas (Christ Mass).
When our birth date comes, we want our family, our friends, and our relatives to know this is OUR special day. We want all eyes to be on us!
This is what our Lord is asking from us, NOT to give Him gifts and sing Him a 'happy birthday song', but He wants us to remember we still have a God to worship; "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Our hearts for Him is the gifts we can give him. Gifts He never forget.
Do we wait every year to unwrap the gifts in that night to know that we will have a new pants or some new video-game or...? Do we think of Christ or of Santa Clause? Not to mention that Santa is totally unreal!
Really! I wonder now who's real to most Christians. Is it our Lord Jesus Christ? NAY! It's Santa! :(

Santa, though partially based on Saint Nicholas, is a remnant of the Pagan solstice. The fact that Christians still celebrate Christmas during the winter, along with all the old Pagan traditions, is testament enough to the double-think required to truly take Christmas as a serious religious holiday.
