Okay, just so it's out there in the open, I am hereby declaring my affiliation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ie Mormon. That being said, rest assured, I have no desire whatsoever to promulgate my faith or seek to convince others of its veracity. I have come here in the spirit of interfaith dialogue and understanding. I have found myself embroiled of late in various discussions with 'mainstream' Christians, and though I believe there is much more we have in common than we might think, our differing philosophies often lead us to talk past one another. Therefore, I feel it would be a benefit to me to seek insight and information from other Christians so that I might increase my understanding of your faith.

I am primarily interested in how Christians view certain scriptures and general overviews of primary theologies for which there is no corollary in my church. I understand the rules and I will do my best to keep from promoting my beliefs, and will rarely comment on them unless asked by another, or in order to explain my reasons for a particular inquiry. I hope that is alright.

Anyways, this place looks active, and its members, knowledgeable. I am looking forward to my time here and hope it is both prosperous and pleasurable.
Hi Mormon . Just one verse ........: " But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. " Galatians 1:8 kjv.

Therefore Joseph Smith was deceived by Satan in the same manner as Mohammed was . Mormonism and Islam are therefore both cults of Satan .

The christ of mormonism is the same christ as in islam - no christ at all .

Repent now lest you die in your sins

Ah... so realizing you can be banned for spreading false doctrine, before you begin your apologetics you start with the caveat that you aren't doing any apologetics.

Sounds reasonable to me.

I mean, it's a pretty thin veneer... but hey... I get it, lol.

Oh, and I was in the Mormon church before becoming a Christian, so I'm perfectly familiar with their heretical beliefs, how often they try to change or obfuscate their beliefs, and all of their apologetic and evangelistic tactics.
A lot of people jumping on Maxwel here but he has a very good point in that we should be wary of being "evangelized" to by a self-professed Mormon. By all means extend the hand of welcome but be on our guard against false doctrine?

I think we're all savvy enough to know what we believe and can pinpoint false doctrine. ;)

Brother Maxwel, I totally get where you're coming from and am in agreement with you. It's written in God's Word, "If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed." And with your knowledge of the Mormon religion you'd think people would get a clue. Oh well.... "like waves tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine." :(
This is kind of disappointing to read coming from you. I respect you a lot, and really did not expect this kind of exclusionism. Is this how Paul related to the people at Athens?

There are a few off the top of my head. I won't post them here, though. Not the appropriate forum. Once I formulate adequate questions that might prompt some discussion, I will post them in the Bible Discussion forum.

Somehow, this thread got way off topic. For that, I apologize.
I <LIKED> this.... although it is not you who should be apologizing. I am, frankly, pretty embarrassed.

I totally agree, Willy. It is purely embarrassing. The type of behavior in this thread is what gives Christians a bad name. I believe we need to be the ones to ask for forgiveness.

2Jo 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 ¶ If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

We are not called to accept those that are teaching and spreading false gospels ....

Wow page 3 on this man announcing himself, because some want to jump all over him before there is even any proof that he is going to try and spread his gospel on here, or force others to try and follow it.

I am really displeased in some of my fellow brothers and sisters who show no love and mercy to others as we are called to do. We are not to send people away who are seeking out the truth, and those who would be quick to do this are going against God's teachings. Did you others ever stop to realize that maybe God drew him here to be given the truth so that he can be brought out of false teaching ???

Welcome & bless your time here. The Holy Spirit ministers truth in this place though there is a fair amount of nit picking & scripture chucking from what I've seen so far. What I love about the mormons I know is their dedication to their family values I truly hope they have received salvation in Christ Jesus. Not just a saint, our savior and risen Lord :)

They are people and still my brothers and sisters. If they believe Jesus is their Savior what is the problem? God makes the call not us as He looks at the heart. If there is adjusting or conviction that needs to be made that is the Holy Spirits job...Mine is to love them or any other person on this planet no matter what they call themselves....Even folks who live down under....lol

2 Corinthians 11:4 kjv

For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Therefore mormons are not the brothers of Christians as the jesus of mormonism does not exist

Well, I've considered the interactions drawn up as a reply to your opening statement. Is there, in your point of view, any religion that holds a perfect doctrine, adhering only to the words that say, "Follow Me" "I and my Father are One" "You read the scriptures, for in them you believe you have your salvation, but you do not turn to Me that you may have life." If Jesus said He is the way, should we seek someone else if Jesus says (present tense) He is "The Truth" For lack of forward motion, these thoughts are purely for the sake of argument. These are a testament to the only means by which we might inherit the kingdom of heaven. You already know that I would give this witness. That being said, what is it that you would like me to share with you?

When the man said he was not proselytizing, simply asking to talk about some scriptures, should WE start preaching at him.... as if that will do anything but confirm many people's negative opinions of us?
