I am somewhat disappointed in this website. This site has focused on denominational differences, such as pointing the finger at Catholics and name calling. Wow. Good luck with that.
I suggest a glance at Matthew 5:22

The people most prone to such issues, the 'bible discussion' people don't often wander outside of that area, so few will even notice this post. And posting a scripture and sharing your disappointment won't phase them either. I've seen countless posts, with lots of good, valid points, by people trying to deter or even slow down the tone that goes on in there and nothing does. I tried it myself once. The only people who will notice this and care are the people not involved in what you're pointing out. Many people on this site refuse to even go into the bible discussion forums.

You obviously strayed upon the Bible Discussion Forum. Check out the threads on the Singles Forum. The fare there is of a lighter variety and less condemnation. I have been on other sites and this one is by far the friendliest and most uplifting. You are not giving this site much of a chance. I am a Catholic too and I don't have any problem with any member on this site. Stick around a little while. Being somewhat disappointed is better than being somewhat disgusted.

It's primarily the ones in the bible forums who act that way..Most anyway..however there are several other forums which are more fun and less hostile than the bible forum.. This site is pretty awesome. Don't judge us ALL by a few bad seeds in the bible forum..stick around and give it another chance.. :)

Did you happen to notice your signature link to the Help for New Users thread is the link to the old one from 2011 and not the updated one from 2013?

Do you think the prevailing attitude you mentioned here is exclusive to this community?

I think you have found a group right here that has commented on this that normally sticks together and avoids that type of thread. You are welcome to stick with us, we try to avoid hostile territory. :)

Pretty much what others have said. The Bible Discussion is where there's most debating and fighting. Most, anyway.

There's other ways to connect than just the forums, such as the IM chat or finding active groups to join (kind of rare). Good luck on what ever decision you end up making.

I applaud this site for allowing a diversity of opinions on a whole range of both Biblical and secular issues. I almost always find that people who view this site (and others) in the way the OP does dislike that people differ with him on those issues . There is something for everyone here. If you don't like a particular thread then don't click on it or start your own. If you do choose to leave may God Bless you in all you do.

He wandered into the Catholic Heresy thread. Not the place for a new bee who is catholic to go unescorted.

Well, it's not like we burn Catholics at the stake.
All we do is argue with their anonymous profile on the internet.

I'm pretty sure they'll survive.

why?

yahshua regularly exposed the hypocrites while they were standing right in front of him and his disciples,
and the disciples did also --- they never , never, tolerated heresy in their ranks....

oh, they spoke the truth in love to anyone as yahweh directed, but they did not ever permit EVIL LIKE THE RCC to remain in their midst.....

until later when it became politically expedient and powerful and profitable with control over people
and
constantine and his ilk with him dominated all others as much as they could
and
did not permit dissention --- you either gave homage(and money and power and glory and worship/service) to the pope or you were KILLED....

so the light does not permit darkness to remain in its area,

just as the darkness does not permit light to come in to its area.

Perhaps it would be better to become active in contributing to positive change rather than shaming and walking away :)
