I've been a member for over 2 years and still haven't figured everything out. On the top of the page on the right there is a blue Notification box. If there is a number under the word click on the box and then click on the notification. That will tell you who 'liked' a post or gave you a reputation comment, left a visitor message, incoming friend request or PM (private message - unread mail).
